It's hard to see a way back for Rodgers given the current sentiment amongst fans but what would it take for him to turn that around?

Would a top 4 finish be enough? Would we have to look good whilst doing it or would a scraping in on the back of Sturridge's goals (for example) be enough?

Personally, no. His record in Europe has been embarrassing so qualifying for it isn't much of a comfort for me. It would still come down to potential replacements being interested, though. I do think the owners would stick with him if he finished in the top 4.

Not unless he set up a defence which looked solid, & we could actually attack in the process.

The only time we've not conceded regularly was that run last year, & we didn't look solid despite the lack of goals going in, & to top it off we lost the ability to score goals.

He needs to get that defence sorted & find a balance between attack & defence.

If he did that & we finished 5th I'd be inclined to keep him tbh. The posts total/position is kinda arbitrary, but the way we play isn't.

It really just depends on the alternatives, as it does now. If Klopp or Ancelotti were somehow still available I can't really imagine a situation where I'd prefer Rodgers to them.

He'd have to have challenged for the title or something.

Of course we would keep Rodgers if we finished in the top 4.

Supposing John Henry had some kind of mental breakdown and sacked Rodgers, that would plunge the club back into instability and uncertainty for no obvious benefit.

Who would be the alternative manager who could guarantee that we would stay in the top 4?

It's difficult to be 100% on it now/

If Rodgers does make it to the end of the season, we'll undoubtedly have started to play a little better, and get some results(otherwise I think he'd have been fired). But the only thing for me that would actually make me want to keep him is if he can sort the defence out, which I think is very unlikely.

If he also won us a cup. He desperately needs to win something, just to calm him down and give the players more experience and belief.

I think it would take more than just a top for finish.

I think we'd have to see signs the team was developing some sort of consistent style & progression in the sense of seriously challenging very year.

He'd have to show that he an coax great performances from lesser players.

It would have to feel and look like it's all coming together - that he's learnt from all these problems and has shown that he can make the best use of the considerable resources at his disposal.

It has to at least look as he can actually achieve something more than excuses as to why he hasn't delivered.

He's got a long, long way to go.

Why would you think finishing top 4 with Rodgers would guarantee future top 4 finishes under him?

We'd have to do in such a style to dispel all the major doubts about him. Even then we'd be left with the liability of him being given carte blanche to sign more crap players.

I still want him to succeed at Liverpool but we were so bad in the champions league it was embarrassing. Maybe we were a bit of a mess post Suarez but if we got fourth and he was sacked I'd understand why.

Option 1.
You cant sack a manager if he gets top 4 unless you have the limitless funds of United, Citeh and Chelsea.

I don't think finishing in the top four can be be considered particularly over achieving with our current squad.
Anything less and we have definitely underachieved.

Yeah. Pretty much this.

We have to be performing (in defence and attack) and look capable of more. Especially in Europe where he/we have been abysmal for years (when we even make it there).

We most certainly do not have even the 4th best squad so I'd say making Top 4 is indeed overachieving. However that is what we rightly expect and after 4 years and untold millions on players it's what he should be delivering.

To move forward I think these things need to happen:

1. He's got to control himself, stop talking so much and concentrate on the next game. It's farcical that they're putting up a 'privacy wall' at Melwood because he thinks too much info gets leaked, and yet he's still volunteering tactical information to whomever wants to know.

2. He needs to seriously go for the league cup or FA Cup. The man needs gravitas, he needs a trophy, he needs deeds not words.

3. He needs to either finish in the top four or be very, very close.

4. The responsibility for signings MUST be clarified once and for all. If we go through one more transfer window with him talking up the new playes, only for him subsequently to imply he hasn't been given 'the tools' for the job, I think I'll personally visit him and smash him in the face.

The problem with this is that in his first interview after the match on Saturday, he talked about how good we were apart from two sloppy goals, as if those goals were irrelevant.

He just doesn't get it!

Nope, he'd be gone.

What's the point in getting top 4, which is unlikely IMO anyway, if we get humiliated in Europe because he can't organise a team for defensive solidity. What's more, based on his tenure so far I would say that it'd likely be undone with more poorly identified transfers in the summer. Get him gone and reorganise behind the scenes.

As long as the team is progressing I'd stick with the manager. Top 4 would be progress, although top 4 and a cup would be pretty good. But the progress needs to feel like we're building towards a title challenge in subsequent seasons.

I would keep him. Continuity is king.

Everton, Spurs and Chelsea.

Rodgers is most likely DMW.

I hope he makes it through because that would mean we got results. Just not very realistic, sadly.

A definite No from me. Our defending even last Saturday was the mixture as before, I no longer have any faith in his ability to put that right, and unless we do so we'll never re-establish ourselves in the very top tier again.

Nobody accepts the Gerrard issue. Immensely underrated what that did for and to LFC last season. Deluded fans at best.

Balls. Not a single poster on here is unaware of the effects that had. Our inability to defend under Rodgers predated all that, and has survived Gerrard's departure. The only "deluded" fans on here are those who define "deluded" as "those who disagree with me".
