World Cup of the Damned

Good performance from England. Honestly can't fault them too much. Match was decided on a knife edge. Hopefully this destroys Sir Harry of Kane.

70 minutes.. it was screaming.. absolutely screaming for Grealish and Rashford to replace Foden and Saka.

Southgate is so sloth like to react, that's what cost England in the end. Not the penalty miss, which was shocking.

If you're going to miss a pen, I have to say I prefer Kane's effort to the tame penalties taken by the Koreans and Spanish

Disagree & Agree. No way Saka should have come off for Sterling - that cost us that side of the pitch and Saka had them on (French) toast - he certainly didn't look tired at all. Grealish for Foden yeah - to draw the fouls.

Very very unlucky. Overall we were the better team and at the very least deserved another 30 mins where our bench could have made the difference.

Ironic that England is eliminated in probably one of the best World Cup performances I’ve seen from the 3 lions. Some of the best players - Saka, Bellingham, Foden etc - are all young; they will grow after this crushing disappointment and the future will be bright. My prediction is that Bellingham will lead England to the big trophy some day.

I think they could if England could find a top class centre half

I can see why you'd say keep Saka on.. maybe Mount for Henderson was the right call in hindsight. It definitely needed freshening up. Southgate didn't react in time. As per usual.

Happened vs Croatia
Happened vs Italy
History repeating.

Out of a billion people who watch the World Cup, I bet not a single soul predicted that the semi-finals will be Argentina-Croatia and France-Morocco.

I thought England dominated that game for the most, that really hurt going out. Mbappe was pretty shit and average, I just think the difference is - that France are decisive on the few occasions they went forward. England were "trying" stuff in the final third rather than being decisive.

The prick can console himself with posting pictures on Instagram of all the money he’ll earn playing for some Saudi team till the chop his legs off.

If he's not willing to go to Saudi, I'm quite happy to sign on the line and raise the profile of their league in Canada.

Ffs - I had £4 on a Betfair bet that Kane would have 2+ shots on target in both halves and England would have 9 or more shots on target in the 90 mins…250/1…I thought that was seriously overpriced

At the 55 minute mark Kane had already fulfilled his part and England had already accumulated 8 shots on target.

…and then no final shot on target with Kane completely missing a pen.

I fucking hate Engerlund!

England had chances and fluffed their lines at vital moments. As for the 2 decisions mentioned by all the pundits "I've seen them given" best sums it up. Sport at the highest level is cruel. No jeopardy = no enjoyment.

EDIT:
I got Croatia in the office sweep.

Nope best team won.
Clearly they didn't (on the night) but of course the England haters wouldn't say anything else. I don't feel bad at all, disappointed a little (it's not like Liverpool losing) because that team edged it and deserved to go through - as pretty much everyone neutral is also saying.

Story of the game in this case DOES come in the form of the stats as far as this match went :

XG
Eng 2.4 vs FRA 1.19
Possession
Eng : 57% Fra 43%
Shots :
Eng 16 (8) Fra 8 (5)
Missed Penalties : Eng 1
Clear fouls that would have given another penalty : Eng 1
Fouls not given that would have prevented a goal : Eng 1
Deflection off a shoulder for a goal : Fra 1

Anyway, back to cricket ! At least we can win at that game with a historical thrashing of Pakistan in Pakistan strongly on the cards.

Obviously I feel sorry for him about his child.

But the rest of it is a big meh and comes with getting old. He's an old boy in football and has to expect that he'll be benched, especially when he throws hissy fits. Teams were playing better without him.
Added to which, lost child aside, how on earth can you feel sorry for someone who leads the privileged life he has ?
