Italy vs. Costa Rica. Switzerland vs. France. Honduras vs. Ecuador.
Thoughts on today's games? Italy and Ecuador should both get wins although it will be difficult.
Switzerland vs. France is a bit more difficult to split but I'll be backing a win for the French.

Italy won't want to risk a draw against Costa Rica. If that happens, they'll be tied on 4 points with Costa Rica but will then face an in-form Suarez in the final game. Italy will want to - and should - win today. A draw eliminates England, but makes the group more exciting with the other 3 teams having all to play for in the final games.

I watched the first half an hour of the last Switzerland game, got bored and went to sleep after that. I suppose France will win this one.

This ref. is absolute dog-shite. There should have been two yellow cards for the CR #16, he's given 3 Fks for perfectly good tackles, not given a 100% PK for CR - where the fuck do they find them ?

On the other hand I had been willing CR to score ! They bloody well deserve it, Italy (and esp. Balotelli) are crap. CR worth every penny of their lead. How about CR winning the group and Uruguay to beat both England and Italy knocking them out ?!

Let's say Costa Rica springs a surprise and beats Italy 3-1, and the last game between Italy and Uruguay ends in a draw. The FIFA Organizing Committee will actually draw lots to determine the other qualifying team in this scenario, given Italy and Uruguay would be tied in terms of points, goal difference, goals scored, head to head points, head to head goal difference and head to head goals scored.

Here is the rule for the ranking of the teams in the Group Stage of the World Cup, from Article 41 of the Regulations, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

COMPETITION
The league format shall be used: each team playing one match against each of the other teams in the same group, with three points for a win, one point for a draw and none for a defeat.

The ranking of each team in each group shall be determined as follows:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings shall be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organizing Committee.

The teams that qualify from the group stage will play the round of sixteen.

Costa Rica look a really good side. Obviously not as individual players, but as a way of playing and tactics.

Amazing what an identifiable style of playing, tactics, ethos and organisation can do eh, Woy.

They look okay but Italy look particularly poor.

They do, they didn't convince against England but still won. That's down to manager and tactics.

They look poor because of the pressure Costa Rica are putting them under. If England played with a clear idea and ethos, as these Costa Ricans do, they could actually achieve something. Instead they're going to stick with Roy 'two banks of four dinosaur' Hodgson.

Cassano has been really awful. Plays keep breaking down around him either with a poor pass or a horrible bit of ball control. Not much better from the other sub Cerci either.

Well this is fucking up my prediction league form, that's for sure. I've got zero points from Group D.

Must be cos I'm English.

Yep.

As I said the England game against Italy, we did zero pressing, which was attributed by most to the climate.

Yet in 13c, autumnal like English conditions, they still did no pressing until the last 20 minutes against Uruguay.

Last game between Uruguay and Italy will be interesting. Italy can qualify with a draw with their better goal difference - will they set out their stall to do that and invite Uruguay to attack them, or will they play a more open game and risk being sucker-punched by Suarez?

Italy were lucky to beat England and look like absolute shite today. Luis is going to tear them a new one.

England, Spain, Italy and who knows maybe even Portugal as well, failing to get out of their groups.

What a breath of fresh air the likes of Chile, Colombia and Costa Rica have been !

That's unlucky.
England are very close to a good side.

(Costa Rica stay in the hotel next door)
