My great fear for this WC, is how well England could do.
Leaving aside the Capello factor which I was fucking anxious about from day one, and the fact that so many of this current squad - Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Cole, Cole, Barry, etc - have reached that 'now or never' point in their International careers, my principle concern is how the draw has openend up like Jenna Jameson for them:
That Group they've got is a fucking pisstake. It couldn't be any easier. America, Algeria, and Slovenia. None of the other pre-tournament fancies - Brazil, Argentina, Spain, etc etc have such an easy group. England will fucking stroll through that group, and even if they don't perofm that well in the Group games, as is their wont, they'll still top the group cos the opposition is so shite.
Next up after that? The second place team from Germany's group. Germany will top that, so they get Australia, Serbia or Ghana. Quarter-Finals it is. Who will they most likely have to face then? France by my calculations. France are fucking rubbish too. Semi-Finals at a canter if they perform half-decently.
They've effectively got a free passage to the last 8 of the tournament, cos they won't have to play anyone fucking decent until then. You get to the quarter-finals and they're 180 mins away from a World Cup Final.
This World Cup is set up for England, and I'm fucking petrified that they're capable of going a very long way in it.

I don't think France will even qualify from that group. Mexico will top it IMO. If England play half-decently, they should make the semis: Serbia/Ghana, followed by Mexico, followed by Germany/Argentina - that's my calculation. They'll probably lose to the Germans on penalties again, and the winners of the other SF will win the World Cup.

yep we'll probably fall short again, but in rooney and capello we've got 2 reasons for even the most pessimistic of us to hope.

I've got a sneaky feeling about your team Jan. Everyone seems to be tipping England and USA to qualify but I think Slovenia are better than USA. They beat Russia over 2 legs (you probably already know that) and any team that can do that is probably better than USA.
My big tip for outsiders is Slovakia but I've also backed your boys at the ridiculous price of 650/1.

I have no idea how good USA are, Algeria are extremely inconsistent and the schedule is probably the best we could hope for so I don't think qualifying through the group stages would be impossible, but then again, we could also finish with zero points so I'm not overly optimistic. I'm really looking forward to the game on Sunday, a win against Algeria would be massive.
