Philippe Coutinho was on target again for Liverpool today

Philippe Coutinho continued his rich goalscoring form by netting twice as Liverpool beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Melwood.
In front of watching Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Roberto Firmino also found the target during the practice match.

The Brazilian pair were joined by compatriots Lucas Leiva and Allan Rodrigues de Souza in the starting line-up, with Kolo Toure, Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno and Joao Carlos Teixeira also included.

With a relatively small Liverpool contingent on international duty, the fixture was organised for Klopp to keep several first-team squad regulars ticking over.

It was also an opportunity to work with some loaned players, with Sheyi Ojo and Sergi Canos – currently on loan at Wolves and Brentford respectively – among youngsters to emerge from the bench during the run-out.

Coutinho and Firmino netted in the first half only for Adam Le Fondre to score twice in quick succession after the break for Wolves.

Coutinho won the game in the closing minutes with his second of the match.

LIVERPOOL XI: George, Alexander-Arnold, Toure, Lovren, Moreno, Lucas, Allan, Teixeira, Coutinho, Firmino, Sinclair. Subs used: Woodburn, Ojo, Dunn, Whelan, Ejaria, Canos, Kane.

Does anyone think there's a great player in Lovren just waiting to burst out. And that Klopp is the man to bring about that change?

Or is he a waste of £20 mill?

Lovren had a decent spell late last season when the Rodgers regime was tottering. At that time he was one of only a few players to get a grip and play OK, so he can do it. Unfortunately this season he seems to have slipped at least part of the way back to his poor previous form, So, to answer your question: no, I don't think there's a great player in him waiting to get out. I hope Klopp can improve him, but I'm not sure he's going to want to bother.

I agree. Sadly it probably wont work out and he'll be sold with a huge loss.
Thought he had a very good game against Rubin, so hopefully he can do a decent job until January.

Skrtel - Lovren is a horrendous CB pairing though

Lovren along side Jamie Carragher in his pomp would of been a probably been decent pairing. You would of most likely seen a much better player

Lovren cannot Marshall a back four, which was what BR brought him in for... He is the type of defender that would come into his own playing along side a defender who calls the shots and commands the back 4.

Bit like Hyppia, Henchoz.. Henchoz being no where near the player he was without Hyppia.. Lovren in this instance being Henchoz of course...
