Will we sign anyone for the first team this window?

It's all very noble and very honourable from Klopp saying that he wants to give our current squad a chance until the summer, but we're quite seriously in the shit in a few areas of the 1st team squad until the end of the season.
We're buggered at CB, the GK is mostly a mess, we're struggling to unpick teams, and we've no consistent goal scorer available whilst scoring our current lowest league goals tally for decades.

I know the winter market isn't usually the best, but it is doable (coutinho, sturridge), do people think that we'll actually sign anyone to come into the team? I'm not holding my breath and think Klopp is cutting of his nose to spite his face a little on this one if he doesn't.

I don't know who's available, but I think we've got a chance of this season going to shit if we don't. I'd like to see Sturridge come back into the team (ha) and us to sign a CB or GK this window.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted he may be forced into the transfer market after the club's injury problems worsened during their League Cup semi-final first-leg win at Stoke.

Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren went off with hamstring injuries and Kolo Toure ended the 1-0 victory with what appeared to be a similar problem.

Klopp had previously said he would not buy new players in January.

But after Tuesday's game he said: "This is something we have to think about."

Liverpool have no fit central defenders as Lovren joined Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho on the sidelines, while Toure was clearly struggling at full-time.
Midfielder Lucas had filled in alongside the Ivorian at the Britannia Stadium after Lovren's first-half injury.

"Two weeks ago we had three centre-backs, which is a good situation, and the season started with five - but now it is zero," Klopp added.

"It is a strange feeling because on one side it is very, very good then we have these injuries."

My flabber will be proper gasted if we don't sign a CB now and I agree Subotic looks to be in pole position for that, though I hope we take a good hard look at his fitness. Despite the fact that we have a lot of MFs already, I can also see us signing another attacking player after Coutinho's injury, though whether that'll be an out-and-out striker or someone who plays a bit wider I'm not sure. I could also see us adding a DM to help protect the centre of our defence - leaving aside the debate about Lucas' overall quality, we need more options in that position anyway.

I can see why we'd buy a CB, but we actually have 5 of them, and have just got incredibly unlucky. Depending on how long they'll be out for, I think we might just try and get through it, and spend our money elsewhere.

A CB will probably depend on if we can Matip now or not.
Schalke dont want to sell him now but that might change if the player wants to go and a new contract wont happen

Gerry: that's possible, but 3 of the 5 are laid up at the moment, a 4th can't last the 90 any more and the 5th can't get a game for the league's bottom side. I take the point about numbers and that's another reason why Subotic might be the choice, because I can't imagine we'd sign him on a long-term deal unless and until he proves his fitness.

Having paid up Rodgers et al I suspect the yanks will not be keen to spend more until summer

I doubt any owners are keen to spend per se, but what they ARE keen on is success and, up to a point, they'll spend to achieve that, not least because that's what brings in the really big money. Klopp will also have wanted some kind of reassurance about transfer funds before he agreed to sign for us.

Klopp has been given funds, that I've got no doubt about. Maybe most of it is tied up to the summer but if he needs to sign a player or two the funds are probably there in January aswell.

The new tv deal starts after this season so there will probably be an increase yet again in spending in the PL.

I think the 5th CB is Gomez ? Ilori would be #6 though it's pretty certain we can't bring him back since Villa have the option to buy. If they can get Matip now then all it's doing is bringing forward his actual transfer date. Though we're now going to have to pay handsomely if it happens.

No money till summer clear out.... Tis why Klopp is banging on about using what he has.

Can't we do it the Ferguson way? Kidnap the player. Maybe we could do it the Chelsea way. Hide him in the woods.

I hope he's been given a 'war chest'

I love them. Is there any amount of money that can go into one? Like a minimum? Feels like a war chest should have at the very least 10-15m in it.
Haha! It makes me smile a bit when the media mention a 'war chest' - It seems to be a common term amongst the red tops. I think it's safe to assume no one has a fucking clue how much is in a 'war chest' - If one exists I hope it's a lot though. We bloody well need it.

Isn't a war chest full of pieces of eight and parrot shit? Or maybe its fifteen men & a bottle of rum?

Nah that's a treasure chest. No less desirable though - Especially if it contains 15 men and a bottle of rum! Grrrrrr 😉
