Will we ever do the big signing?

I really don't understand why people think Nike would pay his wages unless there was a commercial insensitive for Nike? Eg Nike take 100% of all Nike merch revenue generated from Mbappe purchase.

They'd sell so many more shirts than normal. Who's buying a fucking origi shirt in 2021 apart from his ma?

How many more? At the moment we're probably selling around 2-3m (I can't find more recent figures @King Binny, do you know of more recent figures please )? Merch sale's could pay for the transfer, however, players of Mbappe's status, how much of his image rights will eat into the revenue generated from merch sales? I personally only see this deal going through if we give them Salah + cash.

It'll probably be a Nike + Liverpool City Council joint venture. Nike will sell a boatload more shirts and word on the street is that if Mbappe joins, Liverpool will get to retain it's UNESCO status.

Mane potentially going to be offered as a sweetener to PSG. Watch this space.

January - signing a Preston North end CB for a couple of quid

July - signing Mbappe

Oh,ok.

Wouldn't mbappe face the same trials Salah and mane have here regarding space , or lack of it due to the way League sides set up against us .

I think mbappe would suit us about as well as Kane does city

Mbappes kid has also recently signed the PSG. He's also spoken of his duty to raise the profile of the French League. It doesn't sound like a man desperate to get out.

He'll delay his contract, ensure PSG offer him a monumental sum to keep him and that will be that. Even if he does leave he'll go to Madrid. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in England one day, but it will be when he's already shitting gold.

Mbappe has a kid?!????

I get the wider point but Thiago is a bad example / not comparable to Ozil.

Thiago chose to leave. Ozil was booted out.

Also, Ozil joined a team who hadn't won anything in years. Thiago joined reigning league champions and recent European champions

Torres was a real surprise for me. Was linked with Chelsea, Man United, Barcelona etc but came here. He was still a bit of an unknown, though, in the sense that he was a long term signing with lots of potential.

I think Thiago is the biggest established name we've signed that I can remember.

Kewell was a surprise for me too, but he obviously didn't have the global standing as the other two, but I was convinced he would choose United or Arsenal etc ahead of us. Shame he turned out to be finished by the time he got here.

Kewell still hurts.

At the time he was literally the exact type of player we were crying out for for years. To be fair he wasnt that bad in his first year. I remember him getting a few goals. Then it all went bad.

Jurgen Klopp.

Good answer to be fair.

I still remember that week with such fondness. Rodgers getting the chop after the Everton game. The rumours circled that Ancelotti was the man lined up. Then I remember that Sunday evening a decent ITK on twitter said it was Klopp.

I've never followed planes and cars and all that shit when players sign. But I was literally glued to twitter watching for any movement.

And then there he was, the Liverpool manager in his first conference, talking about being the normal one. Wherever he went at the time he seemed to bring smiles and lift spirits.

Surreal time

In terms of players.

Ince was considered quite a coup at the time.

Mind you - so was Nigel Clough.

Collymore was a coup at the time.

Torres, definitely. Alonso. Van Dijk when City were interested. Suarez, to an extent, but there was so many questions over him at the time.

I’d almost be tempted to say - Steven Gerrard, for that time he was about to sign for Chelsea and changed his mind.
