From a longer piece in "The Times" today:
"Sources close to Ferguson have indicated that he is '90 percent convinced' he will be charged and that he holds little hope of receiving a fair hearing because of the publicity surrounding the case. Ferguson is furious at what he perceives to be a media campaign against him and believes a witch-hunt is being fuelled by sources close to the most senior refereeing figures.
Alan Leighton, the head of Prospect, the officials' union, has called for Ferguson to be banned and claimed that the manager's apology on Saturday 'probably exacerbates the situation rather than resolves it'. Leighton indicated that Wiley could sue Ferguson for defamation if the FA did not take appropriate action.
'He hasn't retracted his statement about Alan being unfit, so it's not an apology to Alan for the main offence caused', Leighton said. 'He then widens it to question the fitness of other referees in the select group. He seems to be opening another can of worms.' "
As Tyldesley said when Stevie's header went in in Istanbul: "Hello, hello, here we go." 8)
