One of Pete's mates made a good point that the bigger teams often get more penalty decisions frees etc as they do the majority of attacking and hence have more of the ball so win more frees.

I think they even out over the season.

That was Shankly's argument that I always trot out. He stated we had the ball in the penalty area more so we got more pens, which was true then for us as it is for Utd now.

Same thing about them getting more injury time when they're ahead, the other team time waste more when level or in the lead at OT, so it's inevitable.

Sure they get the rub of the green a lot, but every single 'top 4' team get that at home & against 'lesser' opposition, we're just as likely to get decisions go our way at home.

He's basically saying "It's absurd to impugn the honour of referees by suggesting they are anything less than professional in their athletic preparation, on the contrary, they are motivated by petty revenge".

Ha ha, brilliant and correct. I think Ginsoak IS close to blowing it - partly because he's become worse and worse at the game of being devious (the absurd 'Rafa was disrespectful to my friend Stan' last season was an horrific error), but, crucially, also in part because the cowardly authorities simply know now he's on the road to retirement. If he looked as though he was still going to be around for years and years they'd back off like they always have done, but he's beginning to look now like a US president edging towards the end of his second term in office. I think they're close to snapping back now, cowardly though it is.

I wonder when the media will start turning on him too.

Patrick Barclay of the Times mentioned the difference between how Rafa and Fergie are treated by the media , and said the reason was Fergie's history of vindictiveness with journo's and the fact that it seemed like he'd be around forever, so it was easier to do their job by not crossing Fergie. With Rafa he said the general thinking of the press pack was that you can upset him all you like because it's always seems like he's close to the door for one reason or another.

It may have been you so Jon or maybe he was quoting Shanks. Either way I think all the top teams get similar treatment and our fans are overly paranoid about Utd.

I haven't seen that article but would like to. He makes a very valid point IMO.

SSN said yesterday that the Professional Refs' Association is now considering legal action against the old git.

Let's all log on to their website and offer to contribute to the costs. 8)

At the next meeting of the LMA:

HOWARD WILKINSON: Hullo, brothers. Before we begin with business, I'd like to place on record my thanks to Brother Allardyce for the lovely cake and smashing big plate of barm cakes.

DAVE BASSETT: Seconded!

WILKINSON: Now, on to the first item on the agenda. Brother Moyes?

MOYES: I just want to protest about the treatment of Brother His Highness Sir Alex by those referees.

DAVE BASSETT: Seconded!

ALLARDYCE: I would like to third that, If I may, Brother Wilkinson, because I think it's a disgrace and a crime and is tantamount to a witchhunt against our most esteemed Brother His Grace Sir Alex.

DAVE BASSETT: Seconded!

DAVID PLEAT: I concur with Brothers Moyes, Allardyce and Bassett-

DAVE BASSETT: Seconded!

DAVID PLEAT: - and I would like to propose that the LMA take out a contract on whoever or whomever dares to attack our most gracious Brother His Ladyship Sir Alec.

DAVE BASSETT: Seconded!

GINSOAK: Get on with it!

WILKINSON: Brothers, I am very pleased to see the LMA behave, once again, with such dignity, integrity and courage. I will now ask Brother Curbishley to make us all some tea, whilst I telephone a few friends in the duffing up fraternity.

DAVE BASSETT: Seconded!

This reads like the script to a Spitting Image sketch.

Look at that mark, mid way up his paunch - it's definitely some kind of major fat trapper! If that ever bursts it could be fatal in a Mr Creosote manner.

Sir Alex Ferguson apologises to referee Alan Wiley
Carrie Dunn
Sir Alex Ferguson has apologised to referee Alan Wiley after saying that physical unfitness had affected his decision-making during Manchester United's game against Sunderland last weekend.

A statement issued via Manchester United's official website said:

“I apologise to Mr Wiley for any personal embarrassment that my remarks may have caused and to the FA for going public with my views.

“In retrospect, I accept that this could be deemed as expressing those views in an inappropriate forum.

“It was never my intention to bring the focus of intense media attention on Mr Wiley. I intend to contact him personally after I return from a trip overseas during this international break.

“I would wish it to be noted that I have always respected Mr Wiley’s integrity and that I did not state or imply that Mr Wiley is a bad referee; that he was in any way biased; that decision-making generally during the game was poor, or that he missed any key incident during the game.

“My only intention in speaking publicly, was to highlight what I believe to be a serious and important issue in the game, namely that the fitness levels of referees must match the ever increasing demands of the modern game, which I hope will now be properly addressed through the appropriate formal channels.â€

So what exactly has the old crook apologised for? He's listed several things he didn't say, retracted them and left what he did say as it was! How contrite! And he's still claiming refs aren't fit.

Sounds like he stands by his original comments, he has not taken back the allegations of poor fitness. Will he still be charged? Will he fuck, the FA are spineless.
