Will.I.An

I dont want to spend money for the sake of it L, I want a player who will elevate us up a level. I want another Coutinho, Sturridge or Suarez.
We get ONE signing right here and we have a chance, otherwise its next summer Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez will all want out.

Oh I agree. This Willian fella wasn't the answer though in my opinion.

I wonder if our treatment of Suarez has also hurt us. Whilst we all want and expect us to be on the up players who have potential might be afraid of us not letting them go elsewhere if the PRodgect doesn't work out.
Well fuck those kind of players mate.

We arent far off.
We just need one or two top players.
We have spent nothing and recouped 12m in wages so we have to have money to spend for the right players.
Im cool and the gang, i think we will get it right. Mr Rodgers is the shit.

Feel free to correct me.

Part of its tongue in cheek, but they're upping their wage expenditure banking on increased revenues - they'll have a problem if they don't get CL football - not just a financial one.

Well I've never done a close study of their financials but I think someone pointed out their wage bill is almost £30m lower than ours, so if they have problems (they don't but, just IF) from increasing it then so do we.

But I think even on that basic level it's far from clear cut. A lot of the wage increase will be funded by the huge increase in TV revenue clubs are getting this year, so a lot of Spurs' extra spending is in effect just keeping pace with their means. What other clubs might choose to spend on fees Spurs are putting into wages - it doesn't make a huge amount of difference at the end of the day.

But the main problem with this point is that they're NOT a Leeds. They have independent backing. If the investment proves not to pay off then the very small relative loss will be comfortably absorbed.

Anyway, that wasn't the silliest part of your post. Maybe it was tongue-in-cheek, as you say, but to suggest that Levy is now desperately searching for players to splurge money on seems laughable.

Willian is a long-term target of theirs.

Lamela is a major major talent and would be a huge coup for them.

The Bale deal has been kept bubbling away in the background while they negotiate up the price and get their money spent without clubs being absolutely sure of what they can afford to pay for their own targets. If it all comes together, Bale out for £85m or so, plus another £20m or so in sales, and Willian, Coentrao, and Lamela in, plus all the others, well then they look in fantastic shape.

The only problem is as Woland pointed out, whether getting so many in so late might cost them points. That's definitely possible. But then dropped points compared to what? The true potential of that squad is quite possibly a title challenge. But they don't need that. They'll probably get 4th with 70 points or so, and they surely have enough to get that.

Very likely the Willian and Lamela deals are contingent on Bale's sale. Would be brilliant to have Madrid suddenly either renegotiate a lower price or back away from the deal altogether.

But can Spurs afford to have Bale and Willian and Lamela, both financially and footballing wise? Anyhow, nothing's official yet. There may be more twists to the tale.

gutted - not sure what is worse, losing out on a class player or losing out to spurs? does this signify a real shift in the balance of power between us? Gulfi and Dempsy I could handle because they were shit. However, this guy is class.

That was the tongue in cheek part.

Yeah, look, their wage bill is £30m less based on 2011/12 figures, but their commercial revenue is £40m less. Basically, apart from those with huge stadium, the only major differences in revenue come from Champions League & commercial activities.

Not suggesting a Leeds scenario at all - more the sport of scenario we got ourselves into at the back end of Rafa - whereby no CL meant we has to start lowering transfer targets & reducing wages.

There's no way Spurs can spend £80m odd on transfers & increase their wage bill by £20m+ a year without selling Bale - it would probably push their wages up from 60% of turnover to closer to 80% - which to me means they have to increase revenue, which means CL football (new TV deal notwithstanding).

Apart from how quickly they gel - the other thing I'd worry about is if Spurs don't get CL football how many will agitate for moves.

If we don't secure CL football, Suarez will definitely be at it again & Coutinho will be next... Probably.

The difference is that the knobs on RAWK run the damn place.
A few days ago some they locked every single thread on the transfer forum because someone mentioned *gasp* Twitter.

According to that Macca lad on the liverpool-rumours site, Willian had made clear his preference for Liverpool over Spurs, but we refused to pay the extra 3 million to meet Anzhi's price.

Mmmm, if this is true, I'm not sure how I feel about it, over £3million quid?

Imagine the bum fight at Madrid when a free kick is awarded on edge of area. Ronaldo and Bale. How can they play together
