From "Beyond the Kop":

I am led to believe that Liverpool have offered 28m plus 5m in add ons ( this would kick in if LFC qualified for Champions league in the next two seasons )

Anzhi have now given Liverpool exclusivity to talk to the player with the club willing to offer him a five year deal worth 100k per week plus bonuses, they hope to have the deal wrapped up by Monday

Brendan Rodgers is also very keen to add a centre back to his ranks with Sakho, Chygrynskiy and Inigo Martinez all an option.

I will be deliriously happy if we get both Willian and Inigo Martinez..Isnt Martinez considered to be the future of Spain's defense...

I was just reading about him (Martinez), I'm not sure why he'd want to come to England (I'd also like someone taller, unless this guy can slam dunk ! We had a lot of trouble with high balls yesterday vs Stoke) :

1.81 m (5 ft 11 1⁄2 in)
Born in Ondarroa, Biscay, Martínez joined Real Sociedad's youth ranks from local Aurrerá de Ondarroa. He made his senior debuts in the 2009–10 season, helping the B-team promote from the fourth division after one year out by contributing with 23 games and one goal.

On 27 August 2011 Martínez made his first-team – and La Liga – debut with the Basque, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2–1 away win against Sporting de Gijón. On 2 October he scored his first league goal, netting from inside his own half in an eventual 1–2 home loss against Athletic Bilbao, in a derby.

Martínez made his debuts for the Spanish under-21 team in 2011. In the following year, he was picked by manager Luis Milla for his squad that appeared in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London: in the first game against Japan, he was sent off late into the first half for bringing down Kensuke Nagai as the last man, in an eventual 0–1 loss.
Martínez made his debut with the full side on 14 August 2013, coming on as a second-half substitute for Sergio Ramos in a 2–0 friendly win with Ecuador.

Liverpool will make a move for Brazil and Internacional striker Leandro Damiao if Manchester United or Tottenham beat them to the signing of Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian, 25.

If twitter users that were 'in the know' had to be vetted before being able to splurge their load the world would be so much better off.

Rodgers might look like a used car salesman with his whitened teeth and his massive watch and his stupid portrait but I reckon he's ok in the transfer market. I just don't understand the hype with this dude.

Now I'm pretty much always wrong on these matters, so that should give you confidence that he'll smash it if we buy him.

I feel Willian has the same match-winning potential as Coutinho... just that he costs more than 3 times as much. Is he value for money at the purported 30 mil or so? God knows, but if he improves the first team by some, and if the pretty penny forked out doesn't prevent Brandon from getting his other targets, then yeah, he's worth it.

I share your concern. Just doesn't seem to have much end product, at least from the clips (and stats) I've seen.
Hopefully he goes up a level for us should he sign. He'll certainly be the most skilful player at our club.

Champions League is all that will matter. 30m odd of cash spent throughout the entire summer will be small change if we qualify, considering the TV+Prize money, player attraction and the much easier worldwide marketing, as well as new sponsorship deals (I think we also have clause(s) with current sponsor(s) where our annual deal increases should we qualify for the CL).

If he's just as good as Coutinho, I'd be happy with a combined £40million for two Coutinho's.

Agree. It's basic cost-benefit thinking really. Of course Willian at 30 million is a risk -- any 30 million player is a gamble in today's transfer market. The proven ones or those at the big clubs cost in excess of that, and there's the matter of us not being in the CL (not yet anyhow). Willian is a calculated gamble, based on the player profile constructed by Brandon and the transfer committee. Carroll, by comparison was a 35 million gamble borne more on panic and desperation.
