Why so few Germans in the Prem?

Is Ballack the only German player in the Prem? Why are there so few?

I have not understood this for some time. The Bundeslige is physical like the prem - not quite as fast - but you would (or at least I would) expect the german players to settle more quickly than the Spanish, Portuguese and Italians. The northern Europeans (Norwegians, Danes, Finns, Dutch) all have good records in the Premier League. Again, why so few Germans?

It might be because they have a good league at home - unlike the other norther Europeans - but so do the Spanish and there is no shortage of Spanish talent in the Prem.

Other interesting theories?

Does it go all the way back to WWII?

I doubt WWII has anything to do with it!

I think the fact German players wages are on par with Premiership wages has a lot to do with it TBH.

Also, you kinda hit the nail on the head, it's like an English league in many ways. Therefore we have those style of players here already in our academy's, what we dont have are flair & technical players (or not as many) so we import that, & that in general is not what the Bundeslige exports, it exports the type of player we have already. Only theirs can play at international level, & ours cant.

I have always despised German soccer, but I have to admit that past two world cups have changed my opinion. The German have been among the most entertaining of the past two tournaments.

And whatever coach converted Schweinsteger from a mediocre outside midfielder to controlling defensive midfielder deserves a huge bloody medal. He has been immense the past two games.

And I would take Mueller any day! If we sell Torres, I would consider Mueller as a replacement - he's a natural goal scorer with size, speed and talent.

We can't sell Torres and replace him with just one good player. If we sell Torres we need to get two who have the potential to become as good. At least one of them should be young and proven.

Higuain and another is what i would go for.

The another can be Mueller, Podolski etc...

The best German players often get bought by Bayern fairly early on in their careers and once they're there it'll always be very difficult to prise them away.

Besides, I wouldn't get carried away by German football just because their national team is doing well. Low has put together an exciting side that is taking full advantage of the fact that it's been a pretty poor World Cup for most of the traditionally strong sides. At club level, a lot of those players aren't of the quality the top teams would be interested in.

Schweinsteiger was never mediocre, the guy has been a key talent for Germany and Bayern for years now, brilliant competitor, great energy, football brain. Not the most likeable chap but a grade A player and always has been.

There are Germans in the Premiership. Ballack was released by the Chavs and might sigh for Leverkusen!

Has Klinsmann been the only German manager in the Premiership ?

It tends to be that once you get a manager from the country the players follow.

Yeah I made that up.

Its not just the premier league! Look around europe and you'll see the same! The top germans always mostly stay in germany! Except for ballack who was a money hungry c*nt and joined the chavs!

This is my point. The German team has done this for three tournaments in a row (WC 2006, EC 2008, WC 2010) - so it is not just this year. And, I know people don't think the Germans have much "flair" and are not top quality, but the recent evidence seems to contradict this - including the European U21 championships from last year.

Liverpool have a pretty good record with German players - perhaps we should be looking a little harder at the Bundeslige for talent. On average it seems to be less expensive than La Liga or the Prem.
