Why can't we sell Charlie Adam?

This one baffles me.

Sure I can see how we'd struggle to offload players like Joe Cole (wages too high), Carroll (too expensive), Downing (too shit) but not being able to sell Adam is just weird.

He's not horrendous, he'd cost what, 5M? And plenty of sides need midfielders.

Maybe he desperately doesn't want to go, who knows.

Weird.

I agree, I think Adam's a useful player and would be a decent bet for a host of Prem teams. Truth be told, I think we should keep him.

As to why he's not left, I can only think that he's either on a massive wedge himself or he's just digging his heels in in an attempt to prove himself.

People reckon he's digging his heals in to stay, he must be a big fan or something. Tbh i'm surprised we can't sell him and get more cash for him. At a mid to lower table team he'd be great.

Bugger says he wants to stay according to a quote a saw yesterday.

Yeah but if he keeps sitting on the bench for the next 3 or 4 games, then surely he'll see he's not wanted and look to move before the window closes?

I think that's Rodgers plan to be honest.

I'll see if I can find that quote again - he made it seem like he was happy to play in the Europa League and cups !

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam has dismissed rumours of him wanting to leave the club by declaring that he is happy with life at Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers has set about making wholesale changes at Liverpool since his arrival earlier this summer, as he seeks to mould the club in his vision. Following the signing of Joe Allen from Swansea City, it had thought that Adam may be one of the players to leave the club, with moves to Everton and Fulham suggested.

However, the Scotland international has reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool, and has no intention of leaving the club, one year on from his £7 million move from Blackpool.

"I am happy at Liverpool and why would I leave after a year? There is no point,” Sky Sports report.
"I am open enough to say I have had a conversation with the manager but for me I'm not going anywhere.
"I am playing with some of the best players in the world, I have a good coach, good manager, and I am learning every day from what he is doing.
"I want to play this year and hopefully I get the opportunity to do that. It is a big season for everybody. For us at Liverpool it is a big season, we have got Europa League and we want to improve on what we did last year in the league."

Soooooo, he didn't actually say he was "he was happy to play in the Europa League and cups" then?

Haha - well maybe I remembered that bit wrong, though possibly that is what he is intimating. Or I wish he was intimating.

He's apparently been telling people he knows he's good enough to force his way into the first team with his performances.

He seems to think he's better than the he is.

I think Rodger's just needs to be harsh & tell him he's not good enough.

I think he has already but Adam doesn't want to leave :

If Gerrard or Lucas hadn't been completely shit at the weekend we could argue the toss with Charlie over whether he's good enough.

Then he needs to be more blunt.

"Look Charlie, you're a nice bloke, the canteen staff think both you & Joe are the nicest lads they've ever met, but I don't want you here & you're not gonna make the first team. If you stay, I'm gonna shit in your locker every morning. That may or may not be a euphisim. Don't stay to find out lad"

Lucas is coming back from a year out with a serious injury, and more importantly - he was stood on his own for 70 minutes with no central defensive or centra midfield support. The system was more at fault than Lucas.

Gerrard I'll give you. He was a fucking sham.

Those passes from Stevie G in the second must be copied up and sent to every young man who wants to be a footballer saying" Just never do this".

I suspect Gerrard is facing sone harsh realities.

The last couple of games he's been playing a very energetic high paced game, & giving interviews saying he's still the player he always has been.

He's not, he's older. He's had injuries. He needs to play within himself a bit more at times or be rested every third game perhaps (I'm unsure whether he can play at less than full pelt when fully fit & rested).

I hope Rodgers can show him some sense.

Game style and role is one thing Jon.

Actually giving a fuck and showing a bit of leadership when your team's getting humped is another.

He can hardly claim that energetic side of his game is gone either, cos he ran about like a fucking cunt for England a month ago.

Y'see, this is why I worry so much about not selling on ageing players. Since 2010 we've lost about 90% of the effectiveness of Kuyt, Carragher, and Gerrard, and brought in only £1m to spend on their replacements. That basically means pretty much every penny we've spent since has gone on us just trying to stand still - and that's if we'd got the transfers right, which we obviously didn't.

"You have to keep your best players"

Otherwise you're a small time selling club, or some other nonsense like that.

Exactly Ryan. I think he has done himself in.

Look, he's a moody wee twat (though I love him as a player) & we've seen before when he's off form he can be a liability. Thankfully it hasn't happened that often for a long time.

I think cos he couldn't make the runs he should be doing or cover the ground he was at a loss. He would normally drop deep at that point but couldn't do that without betraying the system Rodgers is asking him to play in.

I may be wrong, but given the choice between thinking he didn't give a fuck & thinking of a different reason it'll be the latter.

I've said before that the Liverpool of old had a mantra 'let them get old on someone else's wages'.

It seems there should be some exceptions (that cunt Giggs for utd), but as a rule its not far wrong.

Charlie might be a bargaining chip for some player plus cash deal, and it's taking longer than expected to negotiate? Or something.

From the big man himself

"I am happy at Liverpool and why would I leave after a year? There is no point," he said.

"I am open enough to say I have had a conversation with the manager but for me I'm not going anywhere.

"I want to play this year and hopefully I get the opportunity to do that.
