This was the Spurs transfer window before they made Champions League:

No marquee signing - and they did just fine.

Let's be honest - if we go on to get one I'll be pleased, but I feel pretty fed up with the idea of signing expensive players. If they come at all they only come with a bag full of problems, they inspire endless drivelling nonsense about their fee, and within months they spark tiresome speculation about them going elsewhere. So I'll be satisfied if we go after more Coutinho types - young, up and coming players who have the potential to become massive stars whilst acquiring a sense of belonging here. So as I said elsewhere, the 'marquee' label is a very unhelpful distraction. We don't NEED to compete with other clubs buying those kinds of players. We need to do well enough with lesser-known players in order to reach such a status again where we CAN cherry-pick a couple of stars each season. We've got some top scouts in place now - let's hope they help us bring in someone with real talent whom we can actually afford.

Amen.

Coutinino was a wee bit of a once off.

You don't get that lucky that often.

We r severly lacking depth. Too dependent on three or so decent players

Lack of fire power? We've got two of the best, most prolific strikers in the league. Duh.

It's the totality of our attack as I keep going on about. Where is the attacking mid who will score 10+ goals? What happens with injuries and suspensions. There is a reason why we have seemingly bid big money for attacking players.

Would people take a finale of Sakho ,Illori, Moses and Given?

I'd prefer cool exotic players we've never actually heard of nor seen play for 25m a pop but right now 4 decent additions to the squad is a darn sight better than nothing....,that said its hardly getting in the first team quality we were promised. Still so far the highlight for me has been the sale of Downing... Which is not to be sniffed at mind you...

I can't see the point in signing two centre backs, given Toure's form has been excellent and Agger is Vice Captain so is hardly going to be dropped.

We need a defensive midfielder and fast tricky winger as priorities with 1 centre back as cover.

We're still lacking in our weakest area, midfield. We need a playmaker, defensive midfielder and attacking midfielder. Our midfield is slow and lacks steel. Disappointed we haven't addressed this. An injury to Gerrard and our midfield is fucked.

Considering how quick Ilori supposedly is, I wonder if Rodgers plans on deploying him as a DM or Fullback

He seems a bit indecisive in the videos I've watched. I wonder if he has anything more than pace in his locker.

The midfield does have issues, but losing Gerrard wouldn't have quite the impact it once had. Hendo is playing well & Coutinho is clearly our longterm central 'hole' position. We need a DM but thats really the only thing we've not gone for. We're potentially signing 9 players. Thats more than anyone, without selling our best player to fund it.

If moses is coming then he can play in the front 3 with coutinho in the hole and Henderson instead of lucus.

And it looks like the no money to spend theory is out the window.

I know it's semantics but we dont really need an out and out DM but a dynamic CM. And the fact that we're signing 9 players without without addressing an obvious(IMO of course) weak point is worrying as it implies Rodgers doesn't think it's actually a weak point.

The other way to look at it is that hes building around that and solidifying the defense with more athleticism, maybe that will put less onus on the midfield to protect, Hendo is doing a decent dynamic role too.

Yeah could be. And I'm pretty happy with our dealings so far, I would just like to get that midfield sorted as I've been waiting for it for years now. I'd rather use £20m on a quality CM than an attacker as I think it would actually improve our attack more.

Come on people we're signing mamadou sakho he's a beast!! Honestly this is a major coup. Also as I've said before Moses on loan will prove excellent as well, I consider him like Sturridge in that he has a lot to prove and just needs a team that will play him and rely on him and it'll bring out the best in him. Signing sakho, Moses, ilori and given and its a good window and then in jan sign one dynamic midfielder axel witsel and say hello to the champs league.
