What (not who) else do you think we'll bring in this summer?

With Cole arriving and Riera/N'Gog/Masher probably joining Benayoun, Insua and fringe players on the exit wagon, what positions do you think Hodgson will add this summer.

I'll go for...

A 15m Defensive midfielder
2 left-backs
A 15m ish striker
A Left winger

And Ozil for 14m (longshot but I have a feeling)

Ozil at 14 million would be a dream come through. He was rated at 14million before the world cup sure.

He's only a year left on his contract and Bremen know they have to cash in now.

I've never known any player with a year left on his contract to go for 15m or more.

If we can bring in 8-10m for Babel (roughly Birmingham's last bid) we'd improve the team massively for 5m odd.

Ah feck it, give em 14 million, n'gog, riera and el zahr 8)

We don't really have a place for Ozil unless someone makes way (like Aquilani). It's very hard to see that happening.

Lol! You couldn't stick to your own rules.....

Assuming Masher leaves...

1* CM (Good passing, reasonably mobile - must move the ball well)
1* DM (someone who can run all day breaking up play, and also play football - I'm thinking along the lines of Momo Sissoko with Lucas's passing and technical ability)
1* LB (Cheap but steady defender will do - good in the air with reasonable pace and good tenacity

I'm also confused with Babel Scenario - Is he leaving? or Is he staying? If he is staying, will he play as Striker or will he play as LW?

Depending on that, we either need a CF or LW.

We can't really afford him either, even if he went for £14m. Cole won't count as a freebie in the year's accounts: you have to include his signing-on fee, however much it is.

We need a striker, at least one CM (assuming Mascher goes), and at least two more left-sided players (assuming one of Babel and Riera goes).

What's happening with Degen? Is he staying? If not, we'll need a reliable back-up RB too.

Yeah, we have Gerrard, Aquilani, Cole and Jonjo capable of playing that role. That is 4 players for one position.

Striker - Remy
Defensive midfielder - Banega/Poulsen
Left back - Figueroa

And maybe a centre half if the Greek is sold!

The series will end , Loïc Remy should formalize in the next few hours his transfer Liverpool.

Roy Hodgson takes his first recruit . Loic Remy has made about him during this early Mercato . Finally , a transfer of 15 million euros for a five-year contract . The now ex- Nice striker takes his first big club only 23 years. The salary would be around 3 million euros per year.

Remy is now tackling the hardest, confirm that all hype has been justified. Continued ...

From some French site. If we get him aswell, this day will be up there with the best regarding transfers.

We seem to have a lot of players on the market or on their way already. This Summer could see a massive turnover with the spine (Masher aside) remaining solid. So plug the gaps and fill out the squad. It could be a very good Summer indeed.

I expect to see :
2 new LBs (Figeuroa & Konchesky) ?
new DM (your guess is as good as mine) when Masher goes.
new CM if Lucas goes otherwise not (we've now got Shelvey who'll seem pitch time for sure).
new reserve keeper
new back-up striker (maybe two if they can find an oldie on the cheap) - Remy looks like being the former.
new RW if Kuyt goes
possibly a back up LW to Joe Cole.

Oh and Werder have said offers starting at 20M for Ozil ..... so we are out because we don't really need him at that price.

I'd imagine he'd play either behind Torres or either side of him. I wouldn't rule out Kuyt going to Inter yet either.

-------------------------DM---------------------------

Kuyt-------------Gerrard--------------------Cole

-------------------Ozil------------------------

----------------------Torres-------------------

(Lucas as cover for the DM and Aquilani for Gerrard/Ozil).

Benfica were quoting 35-40m odd for Di Maria not so long ago -and he went to Real for 21m.

I still maintain that Ozil will not go for 15m or more - not with only a year left on his contract. It simply doesn't happen.

Bremen said that Ozil with cost upward of 17 million. Get him in the January window on a pre-agreement but the Chavs and Scum are sniffing around.

Somehow I believe we should continue with the same formation. We don't have to play every offensive player or profile in the starting line up. Aquilani and Gerrard should never be paired up in the middle. The most important thing this season IMO is that we build a stronger squad. Cole is a step forward.

As it stands we've got:

4 CB: Agger, Carra, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel
3 RB: Johnson, Kelly, Degen
0 LB: Robinson doesn't count

2 DM: Lucas, Mascherano (expected to leave)
2 CM: Shelvey, Gerrard
1 AM: Cole, Aquilani

3 LW: Riera (expected to leave), Babel (not sure if he stays), Jovanovic (could be RW)
2 RW: Maxi, Kuyt

2 ST: Torres, Ngog

It's quite obvious where we need to strengthen the squad. We desperately need a left fullback and a striker, as it stands. If Mascherano leaves we will need another DM as well.
So in conclusion:
1-2 LB
1 DM (probably)
1 ST

Isn't too hard to acquire, right?

He's only going to go for this sort of money once. His next move will likely be for 60-70m in a few years, or even more - he's that good.

If we can bring in 30m odd for Masher we can surely buy a decent replacement (Banega, Diarra etc) for 15m and put the rest towards Ozil. He'd walk into our first eleven and improve it, and be a long-term superstar for us. He can play anywhere across the three behind Torres or sit behind Torres in a 4-4-1-1.

There might be a few top teams in for him but at 21 we'd still be a very attractive destination for him to take a step up from Bremen (with the chance to play alongside Gerrard, Torres, Cole etc). Moreover we have plenty of fringe players at about the right level to be sweeteners for Bremen (Degen, Riera, Babel etc)

It's about time we gave ourselves a number of attacking options, like say Man utd do. We often look at their bench with envy and it's not because of the defensive midfield options they can bring on. Add Ozil to the likes of Cole, Aquilani, Kuyt and Maxi and we've strength in depth to change a game (with Torres, Remy and Jovanovic up top).

You've convinced me, Buddha. Now send that post as an email to 'Purslow'. Perhaps cc to Roy too, just out of politeness.

Hodgson can be told once it's finalised. He's on a need to know basis. Then Cecil can tell him where he has to play Ozil, Cole etc.

Seriously though, we should be all over Ozil like a cheap suit.

I wouldn't mind bringing Raul in on a free he's been told to go by Mourinho, would be handy to have on the bench.

Whilst i appreciate his goal scoring record, i think he would be totally gash in this country

Sorry enlightend one. I think he could be worth a punt for a season. Considering the financial predicament the club finds itself in, we could get rid of ngog and have him as backup to remi / Torres. Gaining an additional 3-5 million to use towards other areas of the team. Hopefully after a year the club will be in a better financial state to find a better replacement.
