West Ham v Liverpool Match Thread

Atrocious so far. No organisation, no intelligence, no leadership. Rodgers should tell Hendo to ignore Gerrard and be the de facto captain. Someone has to knock those players into shape. God knows what can be done to the defence for the second half, apart from an old fashioned bollocking and the advice to avoid giving corners away. It's especially maddening that this is happening against an Allardyce side - that inexplicably smug neanderthal must be in full gloat mode.

There is too much wrong with our defence to even make a constructive comment.

A few points - and I'll try to remain optimistic as we'll win this game 4-2 (we did that a few years ago with Xabi and Biscan scoring against Bolton I think after being down 2-0 or 2-1):

* Balotelli's effort today has been excellent - his control to get the blocked shot off that Sterling scored off was excellent
* Gerrard is hurting this team so much - he's of little use when the opposing manager MAN MARKS him time after time.
* We need Clarke back please
* We weren't great last year in the first 5-6 games ... We were winning - but lucky wins (Stoke 1-0, Villa 1-0 etc) ... This is a team with many new parts, having lost the 3rd best player in the world, and is still figuring out how to play with each other and most importnat ... WHAT SYSTEM to use ... Things will change for the better I hope.
* props to Rodgers for changing to 3-5-2 ... Let's see if he has the balls to sub Gerrard.

Skrtl taking fucking pictures again.

In answer to your question.

1) Go from overperforming to underperforming as expectations increase, and things look awful.
2) Have a worse best team and no adaptation of how we are playing to new personnel.
3) Time makes old players worse.
I think people are not factoring the loss of Suarez. He was such a major part of our team.
Add to this missing Sturridge too.
Your reasons are valid too.

I'm loving the Liverpool Balotelli. Can't argue against his commitment, has done fairly well with all of the possible boiling points that have come up, and is putting in a bigger shift defending than half of the rest of our team.

With Moreno turning out to be a beastly little fucker too, it seems like we just need to sign the people that 6CM has serious doubts about.

Our defence is a fucking shambles.
Moreno seems to be the only one who looks focused.
Mignolet was at fault for the 2nd goal.
Gerrard looks lost and has barely done anything in the game.
Lucas is doing what he can in midfield. Has won alot of balls.
Borini, is he even on the pitch.
Sterling trying hard, needs help. Good goal though.
Balotelli working hard.

We are much closer to last year's side than people realized. Nothing has changed other than the striking position.

Really ?

We looked absolutely clueless out there. We don't seem to know who's running where. Slick passing ? We can't even string more than 2 passes. We look sluggish. There's no pressing and chasing after the ball, when we lose it.

This isn't the team that we all were watching last season.

The last time we let in 2 goals in less than 10 mins was 20 years ago. So yeah, go figure.

Well, that was a shambles. Another change in defence and another performance where they looked completely alien to each other. I wonder if Rodgers will spot the correlation soon. I feel a bit for Manquillo, who from what I could see wasn't culpable in either of their goals, and I think it was scapegoating on Rodgers' part to bring him off. We've lost this game in the midfield so far. Lucas has been awful, as has Gerrard. And I know the supply has been pretty non-existent, but Borini has been largely anonymous. Again, you have to feel for Lambert, who has far better pedigree in this league, and must have felt that these were the kind of situations where he might expect to play.

How was Mignolet at fault for the second goal?

He was lobbed by a great strike

Gerrard is wank at the minute

Borini has got no assistance at all. He's running deep but he's not getting the ball from out awful midfield

Balotelli looking better today.

If all we're going to do in terms of setting up the strikers is passing long at them with their backs to defenders, then Lambert might as well come on after the hour mark. He'll keep the ball, link up with others and won't be bullied by anyone.

Fulham. Two nil down, four two up, Igor Biscan wrapped it up.

I'm a Lucas fan boy of course, but how has he been awful?
Seriously.
What has he done wrong?
Brendan is the one playing him further up the pitch than he's supposed to.
Lucas needs to be playing in Gerrards position.

That was absolutely appalling. Worse thing for me is the utter gutlessness of them. Gerrard! Oh how the mighty have fallen.

I thought Borini has been okay in terms of his work when we don't have the ball (which seems to be a lot of the time). He's been running at their players to put pressure on them off the ball. On the attacking front though, he can't do much when the passes are all going astray, or when he gets the ball, he's immediately taken out from behind him.

His positioning.

Lallana for Gerrard please. No point playing 4 centrebacks.

We would then have Lucas doing exactly the same thing. Not saying Lallana would be a bad thing though. Would give the midfield a bit more energy and pace.

I dont think Manquillo wqs a scapegoat. Think Rodgers wanted to change formation and knew Moreno and Sterling were going to be the fullbacks. Victim of being odd man out but not blamed.

My reasons include the lack of Suarez as a worse first team, and the fact that we keep playing a similar style of play that was so reliant on him.

If only.
