I for one am happy we won't have to deal with the blueshite at Wembley. The atmosphere around the ground and in London at the semi final the other year was hideous. And the thought of losing to them is even worse. It's odd how it's turned so much. Used to be good fun back in the day.
Anyway, we're less than a month away from being back at Wembley, and we're playing a team we usually turn up against. A first trophy under Klopp just a few months into him arriving would be a huge step forward and give the whole club a massive boost. Can't wait. Let's snot those oil-rich cunts.

Yes, a big relief we're not playing the bluenoses. That mad steward was a sign of how bad it's got these days. I just hope and pray we turn up and really play to our strengths this time.

Given that City are the opponents and they are nailed on to finish top 3, does this mean we are now guaranteed a Europa spot next season even if we lose? Cant remember how the allocations work.

Nah, they changed those last season. Now Europa spots only go to cup winners. If the winners have already qualified for Europe, then the spots go to the teams next on the table. From the Wiki on Premier League 2014/15:

Since winners of the 2014–15 FA Cup, Arsenal, and winners of the 2014–15 Football League Cup, Chelsea, qualified for the Champions League based on league position, the spot awarded to the FA Cup winner (Europa League group stage) is passed to sixth-placed team, Liverpool, and the spot awarded to the League Cup winner (Europa League third qualifying round) is passed to the seventh-placed team, Southampton, since those teams were the first teams in the table not already qualified for any European competition.

LFC have announced the selling criteria. You are guaranteed a ticket if you have attended 3 or more of this season's Capital Cup games.

That's surprising because there have been 3 home games in the run to the final (Carlisle, Bournemouth, Stoke) and with season ticket holders simply ticking the box for all cup games you would have thought it would take more of a filter. I've been to 4 so I'm OK.

I'm proper excited about this game. We seem to match up well against City and it's always terrific to have a trophy on the line.

Aguero scares the shit out of me. We need him injured or at best not fully fit. But who knows, City don't seem to like playing us.

That's a good thing. Qualification for the Europa league is a mixed blessing at best. Qualifying as runners up for the League Cup would be an added insult.

Yes - I'm trying to remember a big cup game we have played them in - certainly nothing from the past 50 years springs to mind. Maybe an FA Cup quarter final?

City have quite a tough run of games leading to this final:
Feb 6: Leicester (h)
Feb 14: Spurs (h)
Feb 20: FA Cup 5th round -- if they qualify... tough draw please!
Feb 24: Dynamo Kyiv (a)
Feb 28: Liverpool (League Cup final)

Hopefully they'll get a FA Cup 4th round replay (vs Villa) somewhere in there as well, although it's Villa, so that's highly unlikely. They've a team that's filled with starters who're aged 30 or over, and a star striker with a dodgy fitness record. Hopefully those high-tempo games and the freezing game in Kiev will wear them out some.

More insulting than qualifying because Arsenal won the Cup and gifted us their spot? We are not going to finish top 4, so unless we win the Europa League there is no way we are getting into the CL next season. If we were already guaranteed a Europa spot via the League Cup Id be in favour of letting Klopp rest players in the league and focus on the Europa as its a realistic chance of a european trophy and a CL spot, the league is a write off.

As I say, Europa league is a mixed blessing. Not qualifying 2 seasons back was a factor in us almost winning the league.
Yes, definitely a mixed blessing. The following season our efforts in the CL was disastrous. I feel the team wasn't sufficient ready for it and Rodgers was seriously in-experienced for any European games. Hugely, hugely different with Klopp so a trophy and a presence in Europe is a good thing be it CL or Europa.

Ah fuck, I'd forgotten they give the winner of this a Europa League place.

Really takes the shine off it. I fucking HATE the Europa League. Unless we win it, obv.

Inside is good.

The area surrounding is fucking grim.

And people slag Anfield off!
I just think it sucks the atmosphere out of a big occasion...that and all of the music, shouty tannoy announcers and fireworks that have to accompany any final these days.
