We need Everton to keep going. They can hand us the title, ironically enough.

Regardless, I'd prefer them in the CL to Arsenal.

They can finish 4th. They probably won't make it past the qualifiers to get into the group stages though. Not unless they get their loan strikers in early.

Everton - Arsenal next sunday. That will be some game for both clubs.

Everton have got City at home aswell. Need them to be up there fighting for 4th. They've got a decent record against City at Goodison aswell.

I suppose it's a bit unlikely to happen now but I'd still much prefer Everton to drop out of the running for any kind of European football next season. We need all our rivals playing those extra games. I'm less fussed about Everton next season.

But we could really, really do with Everton needing to beat City.

Also, if Arsenal don't get cl then they'll struggle to get world class players. Everton will just have to loan players regardless.

Well, yeah, if they end up getting European football it's probably better they take CL away from Arsenal.

And then get beat in the qualifiers again. The thought of the last time still makes me happy.

There are a few good reasons to want Everton to beat Arsenal to 4th.

1. As Jon says, it'd weaken a genuine rival, while not meaningfully strengthen a club who don't look in any position to really build from here. They'd need to spend at least £30m just to stand still, once their loanees go back.

2. They'd be unseeded for the qualifying game, so would be fairly unlikely to even make the group stage. That means a bigger share of the English CL money for the 3 remaining teams.

3. Arsenal not being in it gives us a better chance of a good draw for the group stage, because we will definitely have a team from 'Pot 1', which would ordinarily include Arsenal. Seeing as we can not drawn another English club at that stage, it makes the chance of drawing Bayern/Real etc that much higher. I think someone relatively benign like Porto would take their place in that pot.

4. Arsenal will be in the EL anyway, so will still have other commitments. Especially since that will offer another route to CL qualification next year, so can hardly be taken lightly.

Also, if Everton are fighting for 4th place, it would motivate them even more into beating city. Everton away is city's toughest game (apart from us). And we need city to drop points. Even if we do manage to win all our games, city dropping 3 points at goodison would ease the pressure.

Yep, I tend to think we need them to slip again, too. I've thought for a good month now that we'd finish with a load of wins and one draw - probably against Chelsea. Everton look the best bet for that right now.

Another reason not to worry about Everton is that Martinez will eventually get poached by a bigger club and they will bring back Moyes after he gets sacked.

Cant help but think screw Everton.

I don't think Arsenal being without CL for a season would make much difference for them, they have cash and its not like they really take advantage of being in the CL by buying the real top talent anyway.

Longer than a season and it would become a problem and i guess you can argue that if they miss out on it this year it does increase the chance of them missing out next year leaving them in the shit, we want the mancs missing out again though!

Wouldn't be in pot 1?

Champions in 05, runners up in 07?
