We need another striker...

Man utd scored 4 goals yesterday from 7 shots on target. We scored 1 from 11.

I'll stick my head out and say by the end of the season we will have more shots on target than Man U yet score far fewer goals.

With Sturridges injury record and Suarez's disciplinary, we need another striker more than another midfielder. If the reputed amount of £30m is true than buying Fred plus Eriksen would make more sense than buying just Willian.

You're obsessed with fucking Fred!

He was average in Europe last time and has had a resurgence because he's in brazilian football

Might as well sign Jo because he's done well on Brazil

I get what you're saying, we do need to be more clinical in front of goal. But with Suarez back, that's him, Sturridge and Aspas, with Borini in the wings, as the choices. So I think we're comfortable there unless Suarez moves anytime soon.

Also, I doubt Fred is the profile of front man that fits Brandon's philosophy.

We don't need another striker we just need to be clinical in front of goal.

Where did you get that figure from ? 26 shots and 16 on target.

I agree that our strikers are less than prolific with their strike percentages however if we keep having 26 shots, have 16 on target and win 1-0 I'll be happy (though it's more than likely we'll start scoring more than one per game with that many shots/on target).

Rather, it's Henderson or Allen, or whichever furthermost forward midfielder, who should take their chances better. That being said, Henderson played well yesterday and got into the right positions brilliantly.

Red Horizon - please go get laid ... These kind of games happen (and so do 6-0 thrashings of Newcastle, or 5-0 of Swansea, or 3-1 of Fulham etc). Liven the fuck up a bit - we were top of the league for a few FUCKING HOURS YESTERDAY!!!

He was unlucky not to score as well, two great saves from Begovic and he hit the post too.

Wasn't Suarez criticised for his finishing towards the end of the 2011-12 season? Their `keeper just got man of the match ffs.

Henderson is a far better option than Allen, he was great yesterday and he'll bag a few goals this season, again.

Agree. They are players with their own merits and I like them both, but base on form (and match results), Henderson should be picked ahead of Allen. Although the picture could well change should Allen start against Villa and net a goal or two and help the side win the midfield battle and the match.

Glad to have both of them.

Another striker is way down the list of requirements. Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez will bag plenty. It's the rest of the team that need to chip in a share and apart from Henderson I can't see that happening.

Exactly this. Henderson should definitely have had 2 goals yesterday and put the game to bed.

I doubt the likes of Henderson and Allen are able to do more in front of goal.
So there's no chance of Henderson converting those shots (saved, post, etc) into goals? Or another midfielder to convert them instead of him?
I don't think we're a club capable of bringing in another striker under the current finance.
It'll have to be a replacement of one of the 4 strikers we have. I think a great attacking midfielder is of higher priority.

The annoying thing is that our most potent midfielder Gerrard now plays so deep.

Gerrard hasnt been a potent goal threat since 2009, he still has a role to play in the side but its not as the goal scoring midfielder. We need at least 10 more goals from midfield this season, Gerrard is not the solution to that problem

The season's started and Rodgers has no time to be day dreaming about this or that striker. It's too late for that. We need to win the next game and that's the only thing he should be focused on.

From the moment Rodgers targeted Sigurdsson (whom he once described as a goalscorer born with that instinct), I think we've been on the look out for goal scoring midfield option.

He reiterated that point earlier in June - thus the targeting of Mkhitaryan (and probably why the likes of Eriksen hasn't featured as high in his list, at least, initially)

Henderson did a surprisingly good job of getting in attacking positions yesterday. While he was mostly anonymous in the buildup, he had a couple of very good chances just due to his positioning. Could say that if we were facing a different keeper, he would have had a brace yesterday, he did pretty well to take good shots. A legit attacking mid would definitely be first choice, but I can see Henderson growing into that role eventually.

His chance in the first half wasn't missed because of great goalkeeping, he shot right at him. Neither was the one that hit the post.

I'm probably on own in this, but bergovic didn't actually have that good a game, our shooting was just rubbish
