I guess you'd agree that Rafa made some pretty good decisions then last season running Man utd so close in the league.
Yeah Buddha. Five years and he has a Plan A, but as soon as there's a glitch with Plan A, he's all over the place with his bizarre decisions with playing players out of position and curious substitutions. I've said for a long time I don't trust Rafa's decision making.

He won't be gone, Farky made a great point about this earlier in one of the other threads. And Ross covered it straight away.

We can't afford it and I'd love to see how we're gonna sell this shite to another manager.

How can you say that? Aqualani has never even played for us.
Talk about making hare-brained assumptions.
because he's widely regarded as a very good player (as was Alonso). Even if he's not as good as hoped he's only one player in a squad of 25.
I said the squad is likely little changed with the improvement at right back to add to the unknown quantity that is Aquilani.
So we replaced our playmaker with an unknown quantity and failed to clear out some of the dead wood but you think that's ok?
Gene, who else could we have replaced Alonso with for 20m odd but a player with huge promise and similar attributes? The main problem I have with the deal is the injury he was carrying.

As for clearing deadwood, is there any guarantee Rafa would have had the money from sales to spend?

I'm not saying Rafa is blameless this season, i just think now (in the middle of a mini-crisis) is not the time to be thinking clearly about his merits. He hasn't suddenly become a bad manager overnight and last seasons league performance has won him some patience from me. We do have Torres and Gerrard out at the moment too.
Babel was widely regarded as a very good player..
As was Lucas..
As was Morientes..
As was Torres
As was Masher
As was Benayoun
As was Agger

etc
True... but the point i am trying to make.. is their is no guarantee he will make the grade..

I'm crossing my fingers he does though, I really am.

Dossena is another recent example...
Of course there's no guarantee, but the available evidence suggests he's a decent enough player to improve our current side. Unfortunately it also suggests he may have trouble staying fit.

Alonso: "Rafa. I want to leave."

Rafa: "Why?"

Alonso: "Because you're a cock."

Rafa: "No. You can't go."

Alonso ponders that it's World Cup year.

Alonso: "Ok".

I don;t think thats fair Neets. Last season he had to cope with Gerrard and Torres hardly making the pitch together (our archetypal plan A). He still oversaw a genuine challenge.

Sadly, I think it could have been. What would Alonso have done? Sat out a world cup year?

You forgot the start of that story Sheik, plus you're forgetting that fact that poor little Rafa was blameless in the Alonso situation, because notoriously difficult Alonso who has been such a trouble maker for the past five years at our club was the one on instigated his move and forced it through. There was nothing poor Rafa could do about it.

Why not? He was under contract, it is World Cup year so he had to put in good performance and he doesn't come across as the type who would have sulked and played shite to make a point.

I think it's very fair to say he only has a one dimensional plan. Only difference is last season he had another player that could hold 4231 together even without Gerrard and Torres. Now he doesn't. Again, Rafa's fault.

And I'm sorry, it wasn't a 'genuine challenge', it was a last minute desperate ditch which was always gonna fall short.

We accumulated 86 points for Gods sake, that's a challenge in my book. I'm off to bed (up at 4). We'll have to agree to disagree.

we lose at the weekend and any chance of a title challenge is over.

he won't get sacked for money reasons and he hasn't got the honour or integrity to quit.

that fat inept lucas loving tosspot would probably over complicate tying his shoelaces.

there were two waves of boos from across the stadium tonight. i haven't seen anything like this in a long long time.

It ain't happening anytime soon mate.

its a lot of money... but if you dont qualify for the champions league, you will be set to lose that anyway...

if it doesn't turn around soon this season could financially cripple us!

Its just not Rafa your sacking its his whole back room team as well, there is no way we can afford to sack Rafa now.
