kelly
johnson
aurelio
robinson

if we didn't get a left back I wouldn't be 'too' disappointed.

I think we do need a LB. Of the four above two are right footed one is a crock and the other is too young to play fulltime.
I think we will sign Cissokho, but regardless, Im pretty sure we wont sign Bridge

Come on now Spider, Robinson?
He's only 17.
Aurelio is made of glass and we've been through this every season since he's joined. You can't count on him.

I wouldn't mind Kelly and Johnson but only in emergencies. I think we'll benefit more from having a left footed fullback.
Even though Johnson is doing we'll defensively on the left, I think it's limiting his attacking prowess.

but forcing him to concentrate on his defending...

I don't even think it's true that it's limiting his attacking. Last season he didn't go for goal himself as much from LB, but he got forward just as often and made more chances for others instead.

Put it this way:

Glenjo was infinitely better on the left than he was on the right last season.

Nothing wrong with having a versatile fullback and as long as his performances don't dip I'd stick out on the right to compete with Kelly.

Yeah, he looked a liability on the right but quite good on the left. Maybe it's because he had to think about it.

He was, and to me that's the only thing that matters. I don't care which foot he favours, or where he's played in his career up till now. I care only about what works best out there on the pitch, so I don't regard him as a RB standing in at LB any longer. If anything it should now be the other way round when/if he plays on the right.

How many games did Kelly play on the right before his season ended? Continually trying to make a full back of him is going to seriously effect his fitness. IMHO that is. Johnson played well at RB after the appointment of Clarke

Exactly Judge, we need our best 11 on the pitch at the end of the day.

If that means Gerrard at Right back and Glenjo on the left than that's fine by me.

Hopefully Kelly and Glenjo boss their sides respectively, as both look more than capable of bombing forward and providing width.

Again, interesting points, but if Kelly's fitness is fragile enough to be compromised by playing at fullback rather than CB I'm not sure he's a long-term prospect in either position.

johnson being better on the left than he is on the right makes no sense but that was absolutely the case last season. kenny's coaching, johnson having to concentrate, whatever, he certainly improved on the left hand side.

Let's build a bridge over this and get over it.

da dum boom tish...

Kelly and GlenJo should be our first choice full backs.. However they cannot be expected to play every game...

We need quality cover.. some can argue blood the youngsters as they done well last season and I'd expect this season Kelly to play more of a Central Defensive role when required for cover as it is his natural position and we lack quality cover in the central role.

We need a left footed full back, end of really..

I agree JJ. Although I suspect CB would not be so demanding on his hamstrings. Im happy to wait and see but I would be surprised if Kenny does not buy a LB and use Johnson as his RB

I'm not convinced Johnson is a long-term solution to LB and I'd rather him concentrate on improve as a RB. It isn't an emergency situation in the same way it used to be, but it's still something which has to be looked at, if not now, then in the nearby future.

If someone good becomes available we should in for them like a shot, but there's no need to piss money away on another stop-gap signing.

I think left back is a priority signing... bridge would be a huge improvement on insua
[/quote]

That's just not true. Wayne Bridge was "ok" at one stage in his career. He's truly fucking shite now and probably at Konchesky's level. Insua has youth on his side and might actually get a bit better. There is nope hope for Wayne Bridge.

jesus christ. That is just so wrong. insua has 1 bad season when he was 20, bridge has been mediocre for a good fucking while

INNIT.

It's one thing to not say anything about the Downing signing as he really would improve our squad, even if he is only slightly better than average. It is entirely another to accept this gormless cunt without saying a word against it..,.

good lord...please let this not be true. I beg ye...
