Warnock

There aren't many good left backs out there atm, to be fair. He is average though, but if it means we can get by for 5 months and be able to invest heavily in a striker, then so be it. We need a centre back aswell though.

i dont mind him..

At least we know he will put in 100%

His attitude was always great and he would never run around acting like a gimp - like some of the fuckwitts we currently have. If he gave 100% before... just imagine how much he will want to be a success this time.. working with Dalglish too...

He could do a Finnan type job for us.. It would be nice to just have some fucking stability. Not every position needs a world beater... signing a better left winger would give the opposition something to think about.

If bringing Warnock in for cheap means i never have to watch Konchesky again... and we have money to spend on other areas of the squad - deee fooking lighted!

Underselling Finnan a bit, there. Warnock's nowhere near as good as Steve Finnan.

I'm really not convinced about this link. Actually I hope it's only a rumour.

Don't mind Warnock but he's not going to improve us the way we need to be improved, imo.

Already have too many average players at the club and Aurelio is the best LB we have who isnt getting game time. Hope this is rubbish. We should be looking at shipping a few out at the earliest opportunity.

I thought Konchesky would be an average sort of left back and do a job for us, that shows what I know.

The situation we are in now is quite different from when Warnock went four years ago this month.
He was then what he is now a good to average left back, and that for us at the time was not good enough....in the short term he is a better solution to what we have now, and on loan would be fine.

regards

Where is Finnan these days?
He has no club apparently. Whether that is through choice I don't know

Just to remind you, Warnock is 29 - same age as Konchesky. And only marginally better.

Meh.
but is on loan so is not going to cost us £4m or whatever

Yeah, but there's something about an option to buy. Which would make no sense.
Doesn't mean we have to use the option. Its not an obligation to buy!

Being objective, not even sure Warnock is actually better than Konchesky. I have Villa mates who think he's rubbish: positionally poor, doesn't read the game, and will just ocassionally manage to overlap and put in a decent cross.

The only thing he's got going for him is that he'd fight for the shirt really.

He was pretty good last season, from what I saw. Mind you, so was Konchesky. Apparently.

Both have big flaws. I'd prefer Warnock given the choice.

Yeah, but don't they generally get exercised? I can certainly see it happening if he comes in and does better than Konchesky.

Wouldn't be happy with it because 6 months thereafter, we'll find he's quite old and really not good enough.

Warnock was far better last season than Konchesky's ever been in his life. If he has that in him and can rediscover it, we'll have improved the side a fair bit. It's got to be worth a go.

Well we don't tend to take people on loan unless its an emergency

I wouldn't worry too much about it being long term personally.

Player profile
Warnock overcame breaking his leg twice and is a testament to a local Liverpudlians' character. A versatile player who impressed when on loan at Coventry in the 2003-2004 season when he was voted the fans' player of the season. Equally adept at left back, centre-half and in left and central midfield. Rafa sold Warnock to Blackburn in the January 2007 transfer window where he made the left-back position his own and also featured in midfield. Aston Villa bought him in the summer of 2009.

Stephen had a steady first season at Villa Park, appearing in 30 of the 38 Premier League matches as Villa finished 6th in the table. They also reached the final of the League cup and the semi-final of the F.A. cup but were beaten in those competitions by Manchester United and Chelsea respectively. On the 11th of May 2010 Warnock was named in England manager Fabio Capello's provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup in South Africa.

Not a very inspiring signing and certainly not a top quality addition to the side but i think that Warnock has improved during his career and is a much better player than the one we sold all those years ago... and he is a better player than Kuntchesky so...

On loan to see how he does?... not bad...

As a mid term stop gap - esp since Paul Konchesky haven't made it to the bench and Aurelio's been overlooked for the LB berth, he's an alright loan signing. Besides, if Kelly continues to excel and Johnson build on his Everton performance, there's no guarantee that Warnock will get into the starting lineup. He knows the place and some of the players too so wouldn't need too much of settling in. A 'safe' signing I would say.

One man who hasn’t been involved in recent weeks is full-back Stephen Warnock.

Ciaran Clark started at left-back, Warnock’s usual position, against Man City as the two-capped England defender didn’t even make the squad.

The 29-year-old’s former club, Liverpool, are believed to be interested in re-signing Warnock but Houllier insists that he’s not received any bids for the player.

“He trained on Saturday,†said Houllier.

“I’m not his agent, he’s an Aston Villa player at the moment.

“He’s not involved, but who knows what can happen tomorrow?

“We’ve not had any bids that I know of, unless I was not kept informed.

Good.

Warnock isn't better than what we have but Taiwo is by a country mile and he wouldn't cost an arm and a leg but will instantly improve the first team.

I don't want Warnock, but I suppose the one advantage of getting him on loan over signing someone like Taiwo is that we won't be stuck with him at the end of the season.

By all accounts, Taiwo strong and powerful, but lacks a footballing brain. If that's true - and putting aside the "better than what we've got" argument - is he really the type of player we want to target?
