During the Utd game I made a comment about me not remembering us playing well in early kickoffs.

So, with Palace this weekend a 12:30 kick off, & Everton the next weekend also a 12:30 kick off, I decided to check it out, I included all competitive games at 12:30, 14:30, & 14:45 start times.

Three draws & two defeats. It's an admittedly small sample size, but that suggests a possible problem to me, especially with the next two league fixtures being early kickoffs & another two (West Brom & Stoke) before the end of the season.

As it's a small sample size I took a look at last season.

Four wins, three draws, three losses. Not awful, but worse than I would expect, especially considering our opponents, who, with the exception of Spurs & perhaps Everton (derby games are always unpredictable), I would have expected wins against.

I'm gonna call it here, & say we have an issue with early kickoffs. I have no fucking clue why, perhaps someone could posit an idea, or maybe argue why there are other factors driving the stats that I'm not taking into account?

Klopp game is very reliant in intensity and passion and the rest of it. I just think there's less time to get hyped up before kickoff. The fans are certainly less up for it and the same is true of the players. Early kickoffs always make me nervous.

That doesnt explain Monday night though. Only 31 wins in 69 games since the PL started, and a very poor record these last few years.
Last Monday night result and performance was Swansea away, 1-0 loss.

Prob just shit early in the morning and shit in the evening.

I'm not sure that 14:30, & 14:45 start times can really be considered 'early' in terms of affecting preparation (which is what invoked Klopp's ire). Be interesting to see the results from only the 12.30 KOs.

Was the Everton game this season that early? Could've sworn it was a late kick off.

Ok, I included 14.15 & 13.30 kick offs (all on Sundays) earlier, & I misread 13.30 as 14.30 when I typed out my post, I've removed the 14.15 kick offs, & it looks worse actually.

2 wins, 2 draws, 3 losses. If we normally played those teams I'd expect much, much better than that.

We clearly have a problem with early kickoffs.

if that continues then we have a big fucking problem, cos we have four of the fuckers left this season, with at least one coming at Goodison in between that City CL game as well.

On the plus side, if you can stomach it, a bet on Everton may be worth a shot if their odds are decent.

I hate the early kickoffs as it's 630am over here. I've noted for years that we tend to do poor and I'm already in a bitchy mood from lack of sleep that a loss or draw does not improve.

I suppose a minor factor is that TV people tend not to choose games for these slots that they think we're likely to win without any difficulty. They tend to pick those games when we're playing teams known for recently giving us a battle. So that has a small amount to do with the stats. But obviously we shouldn't struggle so often in these games anyway. Not even Klopp's introduction of training times aligned to kick off times has had any discernible positive impact. We do seem flat more often than not. It's an attitude problem, and we've had it for ages now.

It was 14.15 kick off on a Sunday. My last post only includes 12.30 & 13.30 kick offs & it actually looks worse over the last couple of seasons.

Maybe I'm confusing it with the FA cup game. Could've sworn it was dark when Lovren was doing his Bobo the Clown impression.
