Lovren marked his man? Great, he marked his man and what happened next? People are seriously missing the wood for the trees on this point, like I said, it's collective, it's not just because Skrtel failed to close a gap, it's other players responsibilities too to react. Look at Gerrard standing ahead of that "gap", he too could have dropped in and closed the space.
If he didn't mark his man, Tadic would have had the ball, inside our box, under no pressure, great situation that. This isn't me bashing Skrtel, but he was the main culprit of the goal, him and Lucas (who should have tracked Clyne better)

I didn't say he shouldn't have marked him, read what I said, he closed him down, great, it didn't prevent the chance happening. So saying "he did his job" is debatable.

Well Carragher pointed this out as well so I assume you were flailing at the screen when he did so too? Skrtel was behind Lovren and can see the play in front of the both of them. It's Skrtel's job to talk to him and tell him to shift across as a good defence does. He didn't. So he either didn't say anything or Lovren didn't hear him. Either way, Lovren was concerned about whether Skrtel was doing his job or not.

You're making an assumption of what might or might not have been said on the pitch. The positioning wasn't great, granted, but it wasn't Skrtel's sole responsibility and the shifting of blame and completely absolving Lovren of any (based on an assumption) is agenda-ish.

Whatever's anyway. Let's throw Sakho back in, he's been the pillar of consistency and assurance for us.

Skrtel moving across would have prevented the chance, though.

Lovren not getting outwitted would have too. So would Lucas and Sterling doing their jobs, so would Gerrard if he'd dropped into the centre instead of standing ball watching (as per).

Well he did, if one man could stop an entire attack, we wouldn't have four man defences, Skrtel should have closed that gap, that's why they scored. Short of bringing Tadic down for a penalty, or building a wall, there was nothing more Lovren could have done.

To be honest, I'm not absolving Lovren of blame at all, but he gets a bit of a bedding in period since he's only been here a few weeks. Skrtel, however, has been here for years and never really convinced bar one good season, and one decent one.

With regards to Sakho, I think he needs an extended run in the team. He looked okay when he played last season at times, and is highly rated. I watched him fairly closely in the WC and he looked good. I think the future is him and Lovren. If he looks shite then I won't want him playing either. But what I do think (my opinion) is that we need better than Skrtel.

I think the "drop Skrtel stuff" is mostly coming from the fact that Martin Skrtel isn't a very good defender.

Some training pics - everyone looks to be in good spirits, I imagine Mario will contribute to that !

I agree. But a season where he scored quite a few goals (at both ends) tends to taint the picture of his 'ability'. I'd rather Sakho and Lovren myself.

Wonder if the Llama is fit enough for a start/the bench.

We are going to see Lazar off the bench again I'd say. Perhaps one more cameo from the bench and then he'll be pushing hard for a starting spot with Sterling getting the nod over Coutinho's.

@neiljonesecho: Rodgers says Johnson injury is the worst of the three defensive problems. Moreno responding well to treatment. Late decisions.

@JamesPearceEcho: Rodgers: "Moreno twisted his ankle and has been recovering well. Sun could be difficult for Johnson, as for Skrtel we'll see over next 48hrs

Injuries could force Rogers into a back four of

Manquillo Lovren Sakho Moreno / Enrique.

I don't mind as long as Johnson is taking a break from the team. It's frustrating as he is capable of so much more. He is barely giving us the bare minimum out there. I don't dislike any of our players but Glen has me at breaking point since last Christmas.
