I actually wonder when Stevie last had a sight test. He's misjudging a heck of a lot by his old standards.

look i know this is the first time this defence has played together but out of the 237 defenders we have it doesn't matter what combos we put out , it always looks the same. shite and amateurish . And nearly every chance they got was from us fucking about , it's shocking and i'll lose lots of faith in rodgers if he doesn't sort it this season .

We need to consistently play a Cb pairing. It didn't happen last year and it's not happening this season yet.

Sakho coming back to fitness

I forsee Moreno scoring some goals off quick counter attacks from corners. Hes on the edge of our box when we are defending

Yeah he will, hes keen as fuck on the break away.

Patchy first half, we have the beating of Spurs but for some reason we seem intent on giving them as many opportunities as possible to get back in the game. Hopefully we can shore things up at half time, we need a 2nd goal if we are going to keep this up

Pretty good performance. A match ready Mario and we could have been 3 or 4 up by now.
Moreno is the big plus. He looks brilliant.

Sakho is gonna cost us a goal here, he doesnt have a fucking clue.

Gerrard has been woeful.

Sakho worries me every time he's anywhere near the ball.

Really impressed by Balotelli's work rate and there's signs of a good understanding there with Sturridge.

Henderson, Moreno and Manquillo all impressing.

Part of the problem is that Sakho, like Skrtel, is painfully unsuited to playing his way out from the back, if we are going to play a certain style we really should be signing defenders who are comfortable playing that way. It doesnt help that there is no defensive screen from Gerrard and Allen, for the Ming save 2 centreback went for the same ball and neither won it, then Gerrard stopped tracking his player and let him walk in for a free shot.

A lot of promise and a fair dose of rustiness

Having a quick fullback is amazingly good, it makes a huge difference in both an attacking and defensive sense.

Sakho's an accident waiting to happen. Really like the look of Moreno and Manquillo though, great prospects.

fair enough , a consistent defence would normally make a difference but i'm not sure with us .

and sakho , can you even trust him ? this is his second season now and he still look like he doesn't have a fucking clue . he cost 17m !

Balotelli has looked alright, and Studge has worked as hard as I've seen him in a red shirt, he's been ace. This Spurs side is a different proposition than last year's vintage, and the fact that we're shading this at their patch is a credit to us. A little better communication at the back and fingers crossed we'll see this out.

He's not inspired confidence, but he was solid at the world cup.

He just needs to get fit and get used to his partner

And, I fear, Sakho. I've said all along these stats about him being the world best passer are BS.

He's a fucking nightmare in possession judging by the evidence of my eyes.

Yes, those stats bemused me, but watching him today made them a bit clearer. He completes them okay, but he passes to the poor bastard who is in the worst possible position to hold on to the ball.

He's not even just a nightmare in possession, his reactions are slow, he's going to get punished sooner or later and will get shown up for what he is.

As for all this stuff about Lovren being brilliant at going out and attacking the ball, there's a couple of occasions where he's done that and fucked up and ended up in no mans land. People go on about Skrtel's last ditch tackles, Lovren's done that too and most of the issue has been his own making.

Not sure if I'm quiffing, but for anyone curious about Balotelli's minutes - I think this is his first game since 6 Aug, when he last played for Milan in the pre-season game against Chivas in the US.
