Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers may have to act over unease at Steve McManaman's Academy role

He has become aware of tensions between some coaches and the former Real Madrid and Liverpool star as well as ex-Kop favourite Rob Jones

'Unease': Steve McManaman
Brendan Rodgers may have to step in to diffuse growing unease among Academy staff over the roles of Rob Jones and Steve McManaman, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People.

The Kop boss has been made aware of tensions between some coaches and the former players, appointed as Under-18 and Under-21 mentors.

It is believed relations have become strained since McManaman and Jones were appointed alongside legendary striker Robbie Fowler in October to help oversee the development of Liverpool's youngsters in a move encouraged by owner John W Henry.

But the duo are thought to have caused disquiet with their high-profile presence and willingness to coach from the sidelines during matches.

It is claimed that some of the club's impressionable young players do not know who to treat as their boss – McManaman and his colleagues or coaches Alex Inglethorpe and Neil Critchley, who take training all week.

A Liverpool spokesman said: "The Academy is in a period of transition because there has been a turnover in staff.

"But we are pleased with the way it is going – we are not aware of any problems between individuals."

Oh, but there's more....

Revealed: The Liverpool fan taking Steven Gerrard and his wife to court over street brawl

Paul Lloyd lives in the same street as the Anfield and England star and his civil proceedings could clash with preparations for the World Cup in Brazil

This is the man at the centre of legal action against Steven Gerrard and his wife Alex over a street brawl.
Liverpool fan Paul Lloyd is suing the England captain, who could now face a worrying High Court battle in the run-up to the World Cup finals later this year.

Mr Lloyd has told pals he knows the Liverpool star and his wife and is good friends with Lee McPartland, 43, who is also named in legal papers.

It is understood that the alleged altercation was captured on CCTV and is said to have followed an argument in a pub.
Mr Lloyd, 34, lives in a plush apartment on the same exclusive road in Formby, Merseyside, as Gerrard, 33, Alex, 31, and their three children.

A friend of Mr Lloyd said: “It’s a bit of a shock because Paul is obsessed with Gerrard. He’s a huge Liverpool fan.
“You also have to bear in mind that he lives in Merseyside, and Gerrard is a hero and an icon around here.

“He’s going to get a lot of stick from people for taking legal action against him. He’ll get a lot of grief in the street and down at the pub.

"He claims that he knows Steven, Alex and Lee. That’s why this has been such a shock for everyone.
“Paul says he knows Alex and Lee a lot better than Steven. Alex is best mates with Lee’s wife. They mix in the same circles.”

The friend said that Mr Lloyd, a keen bodybuilder, used to boast that he had been in Gerrard’s luxury home and was “made up” when he met the star.
He has been director of at least four dissolved companies – a sandwich shop and three property development firms.

The friend said: “I don’t know what he does. I know he’s owned a couple of properties in the past, but I don’t know if that’s where he earns a living.”

Mr Lloyd is believed to have hired top legal firm Mishcon de Reya to fight his case.

It could all go ahead as Gerrard prepares for the game’s biggest tournament, which is due to kick off in June, and will be an unwelcome distraction for the player and for manager Roy Hodgson.

Gerrard and McPartland – who runs a corporate hospitality firm which works closely with Gerrard’s children’s charity – are understood to have spoken to police about the incident.

In a separate twist, PC Helen Jones, 33, is due to appear at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, charged with misconduct in a public office over allegations she tried to obtain CCTV footage of the incident.

Has a very nice lifestyle but his mate doesn't know where the money comes from as has no job, has owned four companies himself that have failed, & bodybuilds.

I wonder what occupation that man had...

Hahahahahaha! Property developer or runs a security firm both tend to be euphemisms for gangster in Liverpool.

His businesses are also quite diverse. Sandwich shop and property firms? No I wonder where the sandwich shop fits in to this. I mean, it's not like it's a cash only sort of business is it.......

What's Gerrard actually supposed to have done? I just skimmed over the article and it didn't say (I'm hungover)

I don't really understand what this idiot is suing for, exactly?

If someone assaults you, you go to the police. Sounds like he has done that. Sounds like they aren't that bothered.

If you sue for damages, there surely have to be some damages? Not just 'I was hit by a very wealthy person and don't seem to have come out of it any better off'
