BORUSSIA DORTMUND'S Marco Reus is furious that Barcelona have chosen Liverpool's Luis Suarez ahead of him after he turned down Manchester United to join the Spanish club.

Liverpool are weighing up a move for Loic Remy as they prepare for life without Luis Suarez, Goal understands.

I don't often find myself disagreeing with you, Hal, but I've got to about this. If I were a Premiership defender I'd be a lot more concerned at the prospect of facing Higuain.

Fair enough. I think Higuain is the better finisher, I just think Benzema would offer more all round, and as a result, would fit better into the way we play.

Bojan being linked to Stoke.

Poor Bojan

CNN Latin American reporter Diego Bustos has tweeted that Manchester United have agreed a 150,000 pound-a-week salary with Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria.
Reports in the Spanish press this week have suggested that Real Madrid are prepared to sell the Argentina international in order to raise funds for Monaco's James Rodriguez and Bustos claims that the clubs are close to agreeing a deal.

Are we allowed to paste stuff swiped from the Times on here? I guessed it wouldn't matter...

Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, will be handed the full proceeds from Luis Suárez’s club-record sale to Barcelona to reinvest in his squad, after the clubs confirmed yesterday that they had reached an agreement over the Uruguay striker’s fee. Having already agreed terms on a five-year contract with last season’s La Liga runners-up, Suárez’s transfer is expected to be concluded early next week, once he has undergone a medical. Although neither club confirmed the fee, sources close to the deal have indicated that Liverpool achieved the full £75 million contained in Suárez’s buyout clause. Liverpool have decided that the proceeds of Suárez’s sale will not be used for anything other than squad improvements. That process is already under way, with Emre Can, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana having been signed for a combined cost of £37 million. A £25 million deal for Lazar Markovic, the Benfica winger, is also close to conclusion and Liverpool hope to complete the £9.8 million transfer of Divock Origi in the next fortnight. A £20 million offer to Southampton for Dejan Lovren, the defender, remains on the table, as does a £16 million bid to Seville for Alberto Moreno. In recent days, tentative inquiries have also been made to Swansea City for Ben Davies and Wilfried Bony, while a move for Loïc Rémy is coming under consideration. There is an acceptance that Liverpool are highly unlikely to find a like-for-like replacement for Suárez this summer and the emphasis has been placed on a number of signings that will improve the squad as a whole. Given that Rodgers had already been handed a transfer budget that reflected both the recent increase in television revenue and qualification for the Champions League, it is increasingly likely that Liverpool will spend in excess of £100 million this summer as they look to cement their place in the Barclays Premier League top four. Rodgers acknowledged Suárez’s role in helping Liverpool to return to European football’s elite for the first time since the 2009-10 season. The manager also looked to the future with a vow to continue improving despite the loss of such an influential player. “Luis is a very special talent and I thank him for the role he has played in the team in the past two years, during my time at Liverpool,” Rodgers said. “The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool. It is with great reluctance and following lengthy discussions we have eventually agreed to his wishes to move to Spain. “If there is one thing the history of this great club teaches us, it is that [it] is bigger than any individual. For his part, Suárez appealed to the Liverpool fans to understand why he could not turn down Barcelona. “It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain,” he said. “I hope you [the supporters] can understand why I have made this decision.”

As one of the few on here who actively wants us to sign Moreno, are we not being a bit tight-fisted on that one? Sevilla want £20m, we're offering £16m - can we not just settle on £18m and be done with it? FFS he'd be a major signing and with a decade of football ahead of him. Spread that £2m out over 10 years and it's fucking loose change.

Interesting about Remy, too. I think I still favour a move for him over Bony. Cheaper and IMO better-suited.

I really don't get the Moreno transfer; Sevilla fans seem to be as happy to get rid of him as we do Aspas, the player himself doesn't seem that arsed about moving and most tellingly we also won't pay the couple mil extra it'd seemingly take to get him. If we're not that into him, why even bid £16m?

Well exactly. But we've got form for this the last few windows. IMO it's a huge mistake of emphasis to stick rigidly to a valuation, *especially* with a long term investment like him. Our bad transfer mistakes in the past have not primarily come from overpaying. The real flaw has been woeful selection of targets. A couple of million here and there is buttons over several years, especially when you factor in inflation of like 25% a year.

I think in this case our reluctance to splash out the extra few million could just save us from yet another bad transfer mistake.

I can forgive the approach because we've signed a number of shit players for inflated fees in the not too distant past. It seems like a very deliberate strategy to prevent us from making similar mistakes.

Yeah, but like I said, I don't think that was ever the problem.

I can't think of a single good player we signed that I/we regretted because of a high fee. Can you?

The problem was the shit players, really.

We should be all over that if he is available, one of the best players in Europe last year, dream on though ain't it?

All the papers are saying he has agreed personal terms with them which is hard to believe, you would expect him to see where he is at after the World Cup not during it.

Playing Devil's advocate here, but who knows what transpired in the background? Could have started with Sevilla wanting 20 and us wanting to pay 12, and then suggesting 16 as middle ground but with Sevilla holding out for 20.

Why are we not going for any of the big players in the 30-40M area ? - I know we made a mistake in the past with the English signings of Kenny, but surely this time round we need something to overcome the Suarez hole. I don't think this Moreno guy for £20M is going to cut it - we need a proven talent on the world stage that is going to keep us in contention for a CL place. I don't think the signings we have made or the ones we are strongly linked to are just going to do it for us.

We talk about chances being created - I thought the best guy to do that at the World Cup and a pure menace each time was Columbia's Cuadrado. If we got him then that would please me no end - and it would not matter if we got Bony or Skinny for that matter - coz that guy can create a lot of assists for any striker, and can score. Also valuation at between 20-30M - which I think will be money well spent.

Exactly. And of course who is to say our initial valuation wasn't £12-13m and we've already added £3-4m to that .. then £18-20m isn't just another couple of million from our valuation.

Besides which I prefer Davies for £10m.

A big thumbs up from me. Thought he was brilliant and one of the player's of the tournament, despite being fouled out of the game versus Brazil.

Cuadrado would be a great signing just for his versatility. Can play in central midfield, the wings, or even as a fullback. That would be incredibly valuable flexibility if we have injuries.

But this is not an isolated incident. It's well-known to be club policy to have a rigid valuation that won't be breached.
