It gets better. The other option was Bebe.

Sorry, Chastened. 😉

Twitterings that we've contacted Benfica about Perreira. Would be a strange one (he's 30)?

Is he the Uruguay guy? I read elsewhere it was to bring in a buddy for Suarez when Coates is away but the idea is / will be scrapped if Suarez is moving elsewhere

A buddy? FFS. He doesn't need a buddy, he needs a gum shield or his teeth removing. This sounds like that time we bought Jean Michel Ferri and he was bought just so Houllier could have a spy within the team and find out what was being said amongst the players

Southampton linked with Tadic for €12m from Twente and Pelle from Feyenoord for £8m. Total of 39 goals and 20 assists in 61 appearances in Dutch Eredivisie last season.

are we signing the wrong southampton player? Schneiderlin could be just what we need as there dont seem to be many good defensive mid around.

Last January made it quite clear that a defensive midfielder is of no real priority to Rodgers, Can looks the man anyway and if Lucas isn't sold then there is the cover for Gerrard.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are ready to launch bids of £10million for playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu after Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen confirmed they have already seen an initial offer rejected by his club Hamburg.

The 20-year-old Turkish international is one of the German league's biggest prospects after enjoying a fine season with HSV, making 32 appearances and scoring 11 times. Leverkusen have already claimed that Calhanoglu has struck a verbal agreement with them, and CEO Michael Schade believes that Hamburg are in no doubt that the player wants to leave.

Arsenal and Chelsea are keen to add the versatile midfielder to their ranks, with Arsene Wenger believing that the youngster can make an instant impact in the Gunners' title challenge next season. Jose Mourinho is in the process of rebuilding his squad following the release of veterans including Frank Lampard, and feels that Calhanoglu is the perfect replacement for the Stamford Bridge legend.

Brendan Rodgers made a personal trip to watch Calhanolgu last season, and has been advised by scouts to snap up the Turk after he finalises Adam Lallana's switch from Southampton. However Leverkusen remain in pole position for his signature, and sporting director Rudi Voeller has revealed that his side are preparing to make a new bid after seeing their first offer turned away by HSV. He said: "We are interested in Calhanoglu. "We have already submitted a written offer to Hamburg. It's been refused for now, but will hopefully not be the last word."

Lorenzo Insigne's agent has denied claims that Arsenal have made a move to sign his client.

Reports in England suggested the Gunners were ready to make a 20 million pound bid for the 23-year-old winger, who was a member of Italy's World Cup squad in Brazil. "We have not been contacted by Arsenal for Lorenzo Insigne and Napoli has not notified us of this interest," Insigne's agent Fabio Andreotti told Italian radio station Radio Crc.

"Lorenzo is a target of several European sides so it wouldn't surprise me if big clubs are interested in him "However, Napoli don't want to put him in the market."
Insigne scored eight goals in all competitions for Napoli last season as Rafa Benitez's men finished third in Serie A and secured Champions League qualification.
He also scored twice in a 3-1 win over Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia final. The Naples-born player is under contract with Napoli until June 2017.

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis believes that Lorenzo Insigne is worth "60 to 70 million euros" after laughing off reports that Arsenal are preparing a 20 million-euro offer for the Italy international.

Insigne's agent announced that his client is "honoured" by the links to London, but admitted the scale of any fee is a potential stumbling block -- and De Laurentiis confirmed he is targeting a huge offer for the player. "Arsenal offer 20 million for Insigne? This makes me laugh. I want to make Insigne rise to a value of 60-70 million," The Daily Mail reports De Laurentiis as telling Repubblica.

United Quoted £45M for Vidal

Juventus have told Manchester United that they will need to bid over 45 million pounds if the Premier League side are to sign Arturo Vidal, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Chile midfielder has had an impressive World Cup despite a lack of fitness, but has been a United target for far longer. The English club first began to properly enquire about the 27-year-old in January. Sources state United have picked up their interest in the player over the past few weeks, and Vidal himself is understood to be open to the idea. Arsenal are also seen to be in the running.

Juventus, however, remain unwilling to sell their star player, while any negotiations are likely to be complicated as it will take an offer of over 45 million pounds to even make the Italian side consider the possibility. Vidal would represent a huge coup for United, given that he would be both the "marquee name" that the hierarchy crave, but also see a key position filled.

Surely that has to be £45million in wages to make Vidal go to a non champions league club.
