Transfer Rumours

As a net spend 20m is less than almost any of our past 6 or 7 summers.
But picking up 75m for one outgoing player skews it a bit.

I think if we had kept Suarez and JUST signed one 20m player we would all be fucking livid.
But signing 5 players over 15m is not to be sniffed at.

I would genuinely have thought we would have brought in a CDM though.
A proper Mascherano type.

I think BR may have that planned for next Summer having decided SG can go another season now he's retired from the England team. With Can coming in, Lucas out and rumours of Song on a 1 year loan this would all tally.

I think we'll probably do that aswell if wonder woman leaves

Net spend is all documented in rurik's sticky thread :-

SUMMER TRANSFER SPENDING:

Spent: £115M (not counting add-ons)
Earned: £80M
Total summer spending: £35M

Do we measure success in how many $$ we spend?

Instead of a solid specialist DM who isn't much use up front, I'd love us to get someone more well-rounded who could operate effectively on both ends - probably not as defensively intimidating as the specialist DM, or as breathtaking a passer as the deep playmaker, but who does a good enough job defensively and is also technically sound enough to handle himself and contribute past the midfield.

Someone like Matic, for example, fits into that category and ticks the boxes for me. Even Didi with his jet heels wasn't sitting in front of the back four shielding them all the time, but was often pushing up past midfield and intelligently picking up or giving away cynical fouls at the right spots (Lucas should've been given lots of tapes on Didi).

I've only seen Verratti once or twice, and that was in the World Cup, and I was impressed by his work. Matic I've mentioned. I'd like guys like these. Maybe Can can become that - we'll have to see. Maybe Henderson - Lallana will have the understanding (they already have the workrate and technical skills) to form a CM partnership that is defensively sound while also being really effective on the other end supporting Sterling / Coutinho / Markovic; in other words, do what Gerrard - Lampard could never do for England.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what Rodgers has in mind for the post-Gerrard-sans-Lucas Liverpool midfield.

I've mentioned Witsel a few times. I think either of the Benders would also be a good fit. Radja Nainggolan would be very very good as well, but there's no chance Roma sell him.

If we want an Alonso/Carrick type, then Badelj is the man.

45 mins Podcast (Spurs preview) with genuine ITK Graeme Kelly on the Anfield Index :

Julian Brandt from Leverkusen, negotiations are advanced (we'll probably send him on loan). Attacking MF. He's only been at BL for under a year (5.5 yr contract). Rudi Voeller : "Julian Brandt is one of the most gifted youngsters in the German game," he told Deutsche Presseagentur. "His signature is a great investment for the future of Bayer Leverkusen.

GK also said that FSG have plenty more money for transfers but at the moment BR is not interested in spending it.

New keeper may come in.

Borini : Sunderland offer is closer to £15m than £14m but Borini doesn't want to leave LFC so will go out on loan.

Assaidi - ridiculous wage demands ended his sale to Stoke (I think I heard 40k at LFC and he wanted 55k at Stoke).

His forecast for Spurs : Win 2-1 or 3-1.

The lowish net spend could be due under estimating a few purchases and overestimating the Suarez sale.

If Suarez went for £65m rather £75m as Barca seemed to suggest and a couple of the buys were £1m/£2m higher then your net spend could be a little above £50m.

FFP could also be an issue restricting how much you can add in terms of annual write off of the fees and wages

Fuck Borini going out on loan - he needs to be told ( if he hasn't already ) thanks very much and all that but you do not have a future at lfc. Either go to Sunderland or get forgotten in the reserves, you will not be given away on loans until you can leave on a free. £14mil is the absolute peak of his value and we are not so flush we can allow it to be pissed away. Real Madrid seem to be able to fuck their unwanted players off easily for great fees too, Ayre should be taking some lessons from them.

He has the whip hand though. We gave him a contract and he's as entitled to hold us to that as we would be to do the same to him. I wouldn't have seen him as the sort who'd want to become a latter-day Winston Bogaarde, but he'd be within his rights to do that. This has to be handled carefully.

Exactly. I know that if it were me then I'd want to go and live & work where I wanted to and not where the club I'm contracted to (note the difference with 'owning') would like me to go. He did a season on Wearside - if he hates the place or feels that moving there won't enhance his career then he has every right to turn the offer down regardless of LFC's wishes.

AC Milan have set a deadline of noon tomorrow for Chelsea to respond to their offer for Fernando Torres, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. Milan have reportedly made an offer to sign Torres on a two-year loan deal, with the option of a third season, and would pay the striker €4million (£3.2m) per year. Reports in several places claim that, if Torres joins Milan, Chelsea will move for Roma striker Mattia Destro.

Wait, he's signed before he has a work permit? Isn't that a bit strange?

Alonso has won the champions league with the greatest club in England and in Spain, now he's going to go try it with the greatest club in Germany, impressive.
