Transfer Rumours

If we get through this window without Utd buying in 2 or 3 world class talents like Vidal, Pogba, Reus, etc, then we've done fucking well IMO.

Their squad is still pretty shit as of now. It needed major, major, investment. Herrera, Shaw, McCarthy is nowhere near enough. Obviously LDV is a much better coach than Moyes, but I think they'll still struggle to finish top 4 if that's the sort of business they end up having done.

If they somehow find a way to get Rooney, Mata and RVP to gel with meaningful performances from the likes of Januzaj, Young, Valencia, Nani then they are still a threat and could easily beat the lesser teams which is where they struggled last season. Really hope they don't get any defenders in as they suddenly become incredibly weak in that dept.

There's talk of them playing 3 at the back isn't there? They've been playing with that in pre-season, anyway. So something like

De Gea

Evans
Jones
new defender

Shaw
new CM
Herrera
Valencia

Mata

Rooney
RVP

It's not a bad team, but I think it's clearly lacking compared to the top 4. We can put out something like

Mignolet

Flanagan
Skrtel
Lovren
Moreno

Gerrard
Henderson
Can
Lallana

Sterling
Sturridge

I prefer ours.

Yep - definitely think that as things stand, with full squads and no injuries we are stronger.

Who the fuck's LDV?

Arsene Wenger has also been talking about strikers. The Arsenalmanager says there was never any truth in reports linking the Gunners with a swoop for AC Milan's Mario Balotelli, while Costa Rica international Joel Campbell will now get a first-team chance.

Ours is much better balanced, but having great attacking players can often paper over the cracks, as we well know.

Mata, Rooney and RvP are superb players - and at least one of them is still in his absolute prime.

De Gea, Jones, Shaw, Herrera, Januzaj, Welbeck is a bunch of fairly talented youngsters - the sort with which a good manager could do a lot.

If they get a top class CB and CM in, then that team starts to take on dangerous shape.

Sky Bet sources understand that Manchester United have lined up a bid for Everton midfielder James McCarthy this summer, but are waiting until August 201st when his release clause increases by £5M before making their move.

Plenty of time before that kicks in then

As it stands I agree your first XI is stronger than ours. However, I don't think it a very big gap.
If our front 3 click they are as strong as anyone up front.

But our big weakness is someone to partner Herrera and more quality at CB. So our season depends on who the new CB and CM are. I fully expect us to strengthen these positions just no idea who we will get.

Vidal
1/3 Us
8/5 stay at Juventus
20/1 Bayern & Liverpool

Not sure this is going to really but this is the type of quality I think we need to be going for.

Would prefer Strootman myself, but would take either

How many the bookies will get right
Zero [hl]1/5[/hl]
They'll get one right [hl]evens[/hl]
They'll get two to three right [hl]4/1[/hl]
They'll get it spot on in every case [hl]100/1[/hl]

As compared with what? I see a defence, a midfield, and an attack that are all worse than all the top 4 teams'.

If you can get Jonny to move 10 yards you should be ok.

Mata, Rooney and van Persie are top 4 standard with ease, it's a title winning front 3, they also have one of the best goalkeepers around, after that it looks dodgy for them, hopefully for our sakes it isn't a quick fix and they mess it up again next season.

The front 3 has shown no sign of working together yet, though. Not saying it won't but it doesn't worry me. I think Rooney and RVP are both well past their best, too. I'm not sure how much the latter has got left in him.

Heh, I think the latter looks fitter than the former!

Then again, so does Robbie Fowler.
