While I agree that it's a crazy price (given the crazy market), I don't think any United fan would care if they continually overpaid for their players. As long as they continue to get them.
AWB and Maguire are good signings for them, unfortunately.
The good thing about Maguire going there is that he isn't going to City. And I think he's a better defender than John Stones and big threat at set pieces, so I'm glad they're not replacing Kompany with him.
It won't be too hard for City to find a better CB at £80m
For 80m I would want my CB to have more speed and mobility than Maguire. Only man utd would be this stupid. City stopped bidding at 65m.
I'm not a fan of Maguire and yes he isn't worth what they're paying for him.
However, it's still better than what they have and I believe he will suit Lindelof a lot better than Smalling.
Maguire seems to have a (large) mistake in him 4/5 games. He seems to think he's got technical skills that evade him. An above average PL CB but nothing more. United could have done better so I'm not disappointed he's gone there. AWB on the other hand, looks golden.
Perhaps not (though I'm always wary of this kind of argument without specific names to fill it out) but finding one who's available and genuinely worth that kind of money, as opposed to another decent but arguably overpraised one like Maguire, might not be so easy even for them.
