Now give me an example of one who has been succesful in England. 😉

I mean I loved Baresi, but there's a huge difference between defending against the likes of Sutton and Ferguson and defending against Signori, Zola and Mancini in the box.

Yup, but if you're good enough position wise, that can help you with the lack of height ... no ideal etc ...

(note, I'm not saying Kounde is - I just don't think we should discount player based on height alone)

I thought 6 ft was 180 cm.
Seriously, imperial measurements are pretty stupid.

6 ft.is just under 182.9 cms.

No, they aren't, and this is actually a good illustration why. Imperial measurements are based on the actual size of actual people or things. Metric ones are based on mathematical convenience, not in real life.

Ridiculous, but expected.

The UK has a mix depending on where you are and what you're buying. The only conversions you need to be able to do in your head is pounds to kilos, pints / gallons or litres, and meters to feet. They're all dead easy. The pain in the arse happens when you're reading recipes and the yanks have got different sized stuff with the same name. Gallons and tons etc.

I mean there are 2240 pounds in a UK ton and that's because it's easy to remember, based on the amount of apples you can hold in your hands, and now many pairs of dismembered hands that fit in a skip. It's all very simple and practical.

Haha. I had to re-read this a few times just to be sure.

Baresi, one of the greatest defenders of all time. I repeat, all time. 5 clean sheets in Italia 90, and was voted into the World Cup best 11. Won 1 WC, 1 Runner-up and 1 3rd place. 81 caps. Not to mention, the 3 European Cups he won too.

Yet the poor sod couldn't even handle the likes of Sutton and Ferguson.

You're right Modo. HUGEEEEE difference.

You're right Modo. He's massively overrated.

Maldini made him look good...

I suppose this is because Jorrdan Henderson (1.83m aka 6 ft) is an actual person, whereas Roberto Firmino (1.8m aka 5 ft and 10.8666 inches or 5.90551 ft) is a metaphysical football concept that does not exist in real life.

Didn't play a single game in 82 btw.
Not doubting Baresi's class, but there's a reason CB's usually are the among the biggest players on the pitch.

No, it's because feet are actual things and it's possible to visualise 6 of them. If you're one of those rare creatures who can see 1.83 metres in your mind's eye, bully for you.

Based on my visualization I'm ten bloody feet tall. It really depends who is walking over me though.

But look, whether you can visualize a metre or a feet (foot?) better depends on what you are used to / were brought up with. I have no innate idea what a 'foot' looks like and I suspect it's the same with metres for some. It's just that it's easier to scale metric than imperial for obvious reasons.

I think in England most people refer to cold temperatures in centigrade and hot in farenheit ... at least I always used to.,

It was cold today -1 degrees outside,
Bloody hot today - high nineties!

I only realised, in my twenties, when I was on holiday in Turkey one summer and had to convert from centigrade to Fahrenheit to understand how hot it was, then in New York the following January when I had to do the reverse.

That fucking winds me up when people do that. Especially when I don't understand Fahrenheit

Urgh. It's wrong. He's not 6 foot. There's footage of him on Sky saying it himself. Plus I've met him. He's the same height as me. I'm not 6 foot. And then Momo has seen him too.
