None of that Ajax team has surmounted to much have they? Were they a group that were greater than the sum of their parts?

Good point – sometimes that's the danger of signing players from well-coached teams, they make individuals look better than they are. Buying the best player of a mediocre team is probably a better strategy.

Who was that guy Chelsea paid a fortune for from EPL champions Leicester? He’s never played I don’t think?

[Before a smart arse says Kante + no obviously not!]

Everton's issue has never really been signing players, anyway, has it. The problem seems to be more about the team and game management aspect. I mean, just look at the amount of money they have spent over the years. The fact that despite the change in manager, Alli hasn't been able to pick himself up, doesn't bode well for the future (for Evertonians), unless Lampard can somehow make things click with him. Kinda like the James Rodriguez signing - big name signing who lacks passion and hunger to fight for the club.

What a fall from grace:

They don’t have a clear strategy. They just seem to hire and fire managers without thinking about how they want to play, what players can fit that system, how to integrate the youth set up into that style, and so on.

That means every 6-12 months they rip it up and start again and it will come back to bite them. Then they’ll get relegated.

I have a theory that target-man type strikers from abroad almost always flop in the Premier League, because they can't bully EPL defenders in the same way they are used to in their home league. That said, for some reason I have a feeling that Wout Weghorst will be a rare exception and will actually prove to be an improvement on Chris Wood for Burnley.

At least I hope that's the case, since I think among the current bottom 3 Burnley probably has the best chance to leapfrog Newcastle to safety. On paper, they actually have the most talented attacking line in their recent history with Weghorst, Cornet and Dwight McNeal – Dyche just needs to find a way to get them all integrated into a cohesive unit.

I don’t know what game Fabio Paratici (Spurs DoF, formerly of Juventus) is playing, but it definitely has nothing to do with improving the playing squad of the club that is employing him. Juve’s transfers under him are just as strange as Spurs transfers now. I wonder who is the sucker in all of this, Conte or Daniel Levy?

[article]Television presenter Paolo Bonolis critiques Antonio Conte’s Inter and mocks Tottenham Hotspur for massively over-paying for Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski. ‘Is Fabio Paratici still working for Juventus?’

The transfer window shut with the Bianconeri purchasing Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina for €75m plus bonuses, paying for this huge expense by selling Bentancur and Kulusevski to Spurs.

The negotiations were done with Tottenham director Paratici, who until last summer was still in charge of Juve transfers.

“Juve acted like Juve, they got what they needed, a strong centre-forward and a midfielder in Denis Zakaria, therefore allowing Manuel Locatelli not to focus on defensive duties,” Italian television host Bonolis told FCInter1908.

A notorious Inter supporter, Bonolis did not hold back when it came to some suggestions that others have already hinted at in the media.

“I find it frankly curious, how did they manage to sell Bentancur and Kulusevski for €70m? With all due respect for these two players, that is not what they are worth.

“By a stunning coincidence, that is the exact same money Juve spent for Vlahovic. Is Paratici still working for Juventus, to give them the advantage?

“I read that some Tottenham fans are not very satisfied with these signings.”

Bonolis is also close to the Inter hierarchy and expects a summer swoop for free agent Paulo Dybala if his Juventus contract runs down.

“Dybala is a fantastic player, I remember talking to Javier Zanetti when he was still at Palermo. He told me they were tracking his progress and wanted to bring him to Inter, but in the end, he went to Juve.”

The Nerazzurri won the Scudetto last season under Conte, but are doing even better in Serie A and above all the Champions League with Simone Inzaghi in charge.

“They have two very different attitudes. Conte was focused more on the counter-attack, Inzaghi seeks other characteristics,” added Bonolis.

“Conte brought back a winning mentality that had been lost over time. With Inzaghi we see an Inter side that is far more attacking and so automatically they are going to be more entertaining for the spectator. Plus it seems to me that the players feel a bit happier now than a year ago.”[/article]

West Ham failed in their bid for Darwin Nunez, but I like that they had the ambition to try for someone like that. They will have a chance to make another bid in the summer.

How 'cobra-like' Juventus USED Tottenham to fix their own problems: Spurs splashing out on Bentancur and Kulusevski to appease Conte funded a move for Vlahovic AND means they can offer Dybala a lucrative new deal

[article]Maurizio Arrivabene, the Juventus CEO, looks like Merlin the wizard and has the beard and hair designed by a stylist.

With three shrewd moves he gave Juventus a saving of almost 30m euros by freeing the income accounts of Aaron Ramsey.

The Welsh player, along with Kulusevski and Bentancur, represented a very serious problem for the club's financial sustainability. Arrivabene managed, with a touch of magic, to fix all the mistakes made by Paratici in Turin in just 21 days - defusing the Ramsey bomb with a loan to Rangers and putting in the club's budget about 60 million euros for two low-profile players not considered by Allegri and his staff.[/article]

[article]
Arrivabene has a reputation for being a tough man, a head-cutter who must rationalise the club's financial resources. He did this in Ferrari and now he is doing the same things at Juventus at the behest of John Elkann and Andrea Agnelli. The same men who chased away Fabio Paratici after nine years for not having an optimal management of the budget to spend in the market.

[article]Juventus managed to get 90 per cent of the £66m spent on the purchase of Vlahovic, fixing all the missing pieces in the team in this winter transfer market.

Tottenham indirectly financed the rebuild. [/article]

Looking for cheap English players to bolster up the number of homegrown players. Djed Spence option for RB. Forest fans really rate him.
The other is John Swift of Reading, and from the clips has a Gini vibe to him

That's written as if there has to be a winner and there has to be a loser.

The sums are all looking good for Juve which is good for them, the doesn't instantly mean its bad for Spurs. Vlahovic could turn out bad too, so let's just see!
