#LFC now have first option on Hazard.
bullshit.
Who to believe? Phil McNulty BBCs chief football writer or spider-neil?
what does first option even mean?

lille - do you want to go to liverpool?
hazard - no
lille - well, alright then. city? manu? chelsea? arsenal?
Here's what it means - He's just won the league there, and wanted a year of CL with them. Next year, he's off. They'll set a 'fee' (probably) and once we match, we get 1st rights to talk to the player (no matter who else matches their valuation). If we make the CL and have improved (as we seem to have), Hazard will come to us.
I like your positivity

Exactly. First option is not really much use at all. It just dictates the first club a player has to turn down before being able to go where he wants. We might not have the money anyway and his contract demands are still his own business. Its not as if it is some kind of exclusivity arrangement.
if true though it at least means we want him, which is tantalising enough for me right now. i'd absolutely love us to sign hazard.

the good thing is we'd be able to afford him because next summer I think we only need to fine tune our team rather than make wholesale changes like we had to this season.

But after he has spoken to us he can speak to anyone else who matches that fee, and assuming there will be others interested that is what he would do.

Also, if there is an asking price given that we can't match then he can still speak to and sign for other clubs who can. He could even stay put if he really wants to.

There is nothing binding about first option agreements. A player will still sign for whatever club he wants to sign for. All it is really is a promise by the selling club to keep us informed.

Lille will pay nearly half of Joe Coles wages according to Ben Smith.
Thats decent.
we've shifted all but one of our deadwood (assuming ngog is a deal done) and only two of the number are loan deals. that's freaking incredible.
it's not really that incredible given we've raised about £5m in the process, and are still liable for about £12m of joe cole's contract, not to mention the doubts around aquilani's move.

Yes, that I do agree with

I'm also on this page Robinho.

Skully - Barca don't need another midfielder (they just spent 60 mill on 2 of 'em). Madrid don't either. What Spanish team is worthwhile going to over Liverpool?

Richey - first option is first option. Whether he accepts us as his destination is obviously not guaranteed -> But as it peter says, it shows desire to bring one of the highest rated talents in Europe to Liverpool. It's a statement of intent.

you have feel confident that aqua will be played more than 26 times, so that takes care of him. as for cole, well, win some lose some.
at least the wage bill has been significantly reduced.
once the transfer window closes we should just pay up his contract and release him as he can sign a precontract in jan so no chance of getting money for him after the window closes.
We could still loan him in Jan and save 6 months wages.

I think if Aquilani plays a certain number of games they have to buy him or something like that.

Well that'd be silly, as they'd have already bought him/triggered the clause.

Yeah i agree with Richey on the first option thing, its even wrongly described. Its a worthless thing and is so vague as to probably be unenforceable anyway.

If we simply had an option to buy him, within a set time for a set fee, then it would be something worth talking about.

Phil McNulty

Cole signs Lille deal. Late interest from Villa doesn't sway him. Interesting talk #LFC now have first option on Hazard.
What fucking good is a "first option" if the player doesn't want to come?

Don't know how much it means but:

Sky Bet:

Craig Bellamy to Liverpool has come into 8/11 from 11/1, making the Anfield side favourite to sign the Manchester City man. Previous favourites QPR are now 5/4 to sign him.

Milner to Liverpool still bubbling along on the beeb. Peoples girlfriends are even texting now. Sourcearama

If we got Milner and Bellamy this would be an ever greater window!
