I said it before, I'll say it again ... the lad is class.

And I don't mean in terms of footballing ability ... I mean the way he carries himself on the pitch.

How many times has he scored important goals - yet he celebrate a goal with dignity.

None of this Drogba, Adebayor and Rooney bullshit where they provoke the opposition fans... just a simple fist pump and celebration with the other LFC players.

True professional.

Oh, Mr Windever, you do make me laaarf !

In The Times yesterday, Jonathan Northcroft (a pretty decent journo) ranked each player in the United and Liverpool team out of 10.

Rooney got a 9, Torres got an 8.

Stick that up your backactor Northcroft.

I said it in another thread after the match and I'll say it again - Torres worked his ass off without the ball against the Mancs..... but I think he really needed Kuyt getting in his ear about the 20 minute mark cause he looked ready to sulk his way through the next 70 minutes.

He's a class goal scorer, a class player, a class act in interviews and a class act when dealing with opposition players in general. But I think our red glasses get a slightly darker tint when it comes to his acting. He can go down with all the expertise of Drogba and it's becoming more common. His last couple of games I've watched with opposition supporters and while I laughed it off for the first 25 minutes or so the longer the matches went on the more obvious it was. Drogba doing the same and we'd castrate him.

I can understand the reasons to some extent - he does get some kicking and defenders are always keen to knobble him to some extent but I'm beginning to grow hestiant in condemning Drogba etc because of Fernando's often similar performances. It didn't make it any easier to see Rooney trying to ride as many tackles as possible in this game.

I wouldn't swap Torres for any striker in world football in a pink fit but that one, single aspect of his game does still irk me.

On the replay of the N'Gog goal to seal it, Torres was jumping up and down like a Kopite. Voronin simply stood next to him expressionless with his arms folded across his chest... Twat.

I think Torres cooled it quickly because he was the only one reacting to the goal like we all did. I love that about him...

Voronin simply stood next to him expressionless with his arms folded across his chest... Twat.

Rafa has done that with every single goal we have ever scored under him.

TWAT!

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

How many players from the opposite team yesterday wouldnt just have fallen like a potatosack if being chased by a defender with arms like that? They would have taken the penalty and red card in a blink. But not Torres..... He had a goal to score!!!!! CLASS

He is magic but I thought he had a poor game until the goal.

[/quote]

That just sums him up though DB. and why he's such a brilliant striker. He was quiet, worked the channels and generally got little service (Kuyt seemed to get more), but when it mattered he held off Ferdinand brilliantly and his finish was excellent.

I dont understand how anyone could think Rooney was a better player than Torres!?

devil's adcovate;

because rooney brings more to the table than goals

I can see why some people think rooney is better but I can hand on heart say I wouldn't swap the two. I don't think I would swap torres for ronaldo or messi.

Well in that case, Gerrard is better than Rooney.

well no arguement there. people should compare the two anyway (gerrard and rooney) as they are similar players. comparing rooney to torres is like comparing kenny to rush both strikers/forwards but have different roles in the team.

Funnily enough, a younger Torres in Spain in that withdrawn role initially reminded me of Rooney..

people look at drogba the way he holds off defenders to win the first ball to allow the likes of lampard to get a shot off

people look at rooney with his ability to create chances

people look at torres just sticking the ball in the back of the net

they watch all three and deem that torres does nothing else for the team but score which is bullshit imho,

One of the papers asked who the best striker was Torres, Rooney or Drogba and Rooney won, first and foremost a strikers job is to score goals, but Torres can create as well, we all remember his awesome back heel against Everton to set up Gerrard scoring at the near post!

Very True. Strange man of the match from Sky.

He is pretty much on fire this season and could hit 40 if he stays fit.

As always, we have to leave the truly insightful observation to Jamie Redknapp, who said of Torres yesterday: “He is between sunshine and cloud, if you likeâ€. Oh, we like, Jamie. We have no idea what the hell you're talking about, but we like.

He helped quite a bit in defending set pieces and corners yesterday. I think he may have cleared two of them.

I loved his post match interview yesterday where he completely self-consciously said "we just have to Walk On". He's properly steeped himself in the discourse of LFC.

I can understand the comparision but Torres's level of petulance is nowhere in the same league. Drogba on average will go down every 10 mins especially in the big games. Drogba is petulant and only Chelsea fans can love him but Torres is respected even by the opposition. Drogba will go down without even being kicked. Can understand a little sometimes why both behave the way since they do get kicked in the ankles a lot.

Maybe so DB.
But it is very fine margins that separate the top teams in this League.
You seen the Chelsea match where one turn of possession 65 yards from goal was all to separate the two teams.
Torres took an injection to play so he was going to less mobile than usual, but the reason all those risks were taken with him is that he is the only guy in our squad who could do what he did. He fucking raped Ferdinand for the goal. We needed that bit of class to get ahead of them.

What more do you expect from him DB?
