From what I understand (don't shoot messenger if not true) Kenny was working hard to talk FT around last night. That's last I heard. #LFC

I really hope they don't make any silly promises to him which may make him stay for the remainder of the season and then let him leave for peanuts in the summer. This would be the worst alternative for us.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

We don't have to make him any promises, he's under contract we don't have to sell him now. We can sell him in the summer when it suits everyone better.

Meh, point still stand. We don't need to convince him of anything, if he wants to go that badly, we can still say no. Unless there's some silly release clause in his contact he can't break it without our say so. Fuckim.

So Torres wants to leave… By Peter Higgins (Other posts by Peter Higgins)

Fine. But he should leave on the club’s terms, not his.

I’d like him to stay and I think he should. But I’d prefer to talk about the players who want to be at Liverpool rather than the ones who are jumping ship.

First there’s Gerrard. He has run the show at Liverpool for ten years. Whenever we have gone through slumps in form he has took games by the scruff of the neck and changed things with his feet on the pitch, not by walking away.

Then there’s Carragher. For years he was treated as a utility player whilst others were preferred ahead of him. Did he complain? No. He played right back, left back, centre back; he probably would have taken on the role of goalkeeper had he been asked to.

And both players have had their loyalty rewarded with numerous medals including the Champion’s League.
But it’s not just players who have come through the ranks at the club who have shown loyalty. There are players who have joined more recently who have been just as loyal.

Reina, for example, hasn’t used our poor performances to sulk. When Stevie and Jamie eventually step down, he is the natural person to take over as captain. His leadership qualities have been demonstrated countless times. He has inspired team huddles, encouraged players to have confidence and generally played with the passion that any Liverpool player should.

And even Lucas. Although he’s not everyone’s cup of tea he has gradually improved and turned in many solid displays, particularly over the last year. Again, the lad has never complained about his position in the team, neither when he was starting games on the bench, nor when he was slated and his performances were being compared unfavourably with those of the excellent Alonso. He just kept working away, glad of the chance to be a part of the club, and slowly he’s started to win the fans over.

Even now, with only an outside chance of qualifying for next year’s Champion’s League, players are showing that they would love the opportunity to play for Liverpool.

Both Suarez and Adam pleaded with their clubs to let them join us.

This was particularly positive in the case of Suarez as he was already challenging for a league title with Ajax yet he was still excited by the prospect of playing for us.

No player should ever become bigger than Liverpool Football Club, no matter how good they are. Because for every player who runs around the pitch with a scowl on his face, for every player who isn’t happy and for every player who hands in a transfer request, there are many more who would give anything to be at our club.

Thank God. We need to keep Torres, don't care what 99% of people here say.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

Question guys, when a player wants to leave the club how does he immediately become bigger than the club? It's simply retarded most of the arguments going on here. A player becomes bigger than the club when he creates mutiny in the dressing room or something similar.

How is Torres stating he is bigger than the club? He has been made broken promises and he's seen a way out of it. We've to convince him to stay as it's best for him. If he stays only a fucking arsehole would boo him, or someone who is happy to cut off their nose to spite their faces.

I suppose we should get rid of Torres, keeps us on track to get rid of our best players every season. We tried as hard as we could to get rid of Gerard (which was similar to this i.e. broken promises). It's all so depressing.

Ballague says Torres wrote trans request before Suarez deal done, cos he thought we weren't signing anyone. Agent handed it in after...

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

Its fairly easy to imagine Torres sitting attentively and actually listening what KD has to say if they've actually discussed things, whatever people are calling him, won't change the fact that he appears a fairly down to Earth and studious individual.

You can also picture the king using all of his charm and know how to put some context on the situation, and not leave any angle untouched in persuading him to stay.

The timing of the request is what is pissing most people off, and I think it might well come down to a matter of Kenny having to dilute some of the resolve that Torres' agent will have smeared into his head on having to leave asap.

Ha. Nice story one Andy.

Mine stuck needles in a Torres doll. Then bit its head off

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

Its his fucking TIMING more than anything else.

We was all on a high because we have Suarez the most exciting prospect since we got Torres, and finally after 2 fucking years of waiting for it, we had TWO STRIKERS at the club.

Everyone was on a high, and THEN 3 days before the window shuts, and the minute we sign Suarez, he says he wants out, leaving us right back at one striker, and bursting all the euphoria and optimism we all felt in this BLACKEST of fucking black seasons.

G&H had gone

HodgePodge had gone

A new record signing

Club on a high and BANG he bursts the bubble putting us all in a black cloud again.

@ @JimBoardman Balague just provided one on Radio City... Said request was written before Suarez deal was done & agent submitted it anyway.

If Torres accepts #LFC won't sell (or won't sell now) he needs to come up with a cover story - otherwise the next 4 months will be hell.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

If there's any truth to these rumours about him wanting to stay it's because he knows we won't let him go and he's trying to save face.
How it was all a big misunderstanding. Cunt.

What specific promises were broken ?
Tores clearly feels that promises about this season were broken. Players bought , the squad and the management have all been poor so far this season (except Kenny).

Lets not forget that Kenny still isn't 100% the permanent manager. I'm sure this factors into everything.
