Torres abductor injury to keep him out of derby

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is already a doubt for the most significant Merseyside derby for years after it was confirmed he had strained an adductor muscle - a similar injury to the one he sustained in the World Cup final.

Fernando Torres had to be substituted early on in the 2-1 defeat to Blackpool

The Spain striker limped off after just 10 minutes of the 2-1 defeat to Blackpool at Anfield and manager Roy Hodgson said the 26-year-old had strained his groin but did not know the severity of the injury.

Torres pulled out of Spain's squad for the forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Lithuania and Scotland on Monday and had a scan at the club's Melwood training ground.

"Fernando was assessed earlier today at Melwood and underwent a scan this afternoon," said Dr Peter Brukner, head of sports medicine and sports science. "He will have intensive treatment over the next couple of weeks but it is too early to say if he will be fit for the game against Everton."

The derby, at Goodison Park on October 17, is hugely significant with Liverpool currently wallowing in 18th place in the Premier League after their worst start to a campaign since 1953-54, when they were relegated.

Everton are just one place above their near-neighbours, on goal difference.

How did he manage that? Don't you have to run around alot and stuff to do the abductor?

what a waste of time Torres has been this season. If he carries on like this until May (form/fitness) who will pay top dollar for him anyway

I think some would rather we lost to everton so roy is fucked off, so aren't really bothered if torres makes the game or not.

No. You will suffer this if you do a lot of bicyckling. It is very harmful for these areas, if you are into other sports as football or icehockey.

Boo, cos he would have made such a difference sulking about like a little bitch.

I think a sulky, off-form Torres is better than a cheerful, fully-motivated N'gog! :🙂

the truth? I think I'm 50/50 basically I want us to win but I'm not arsed if we lose, anything that pushes roy closer to the exit is fine with me. I've never felt this way about any manager for liverpool EVER and not even souness but he was a little before my time but I think roy is now going more harm than good and needs to be shown the door.

I have my doubts at this point, Portly.

Honestly if I brought LFC tomorrow, the first thing I'd do is sell Torres.

I can see where you're coming from but I think it's a bit harsh.

I'd throw out Lucas first.

As someone who loves this club it breaks my heart to see the like of Lucas wearing the shirt, as he's simply not good enough to deserve it. The only thing worse than players who aren't good enough, is those who are but can't be bothered.

I could never want us to lose, that's why I have always predicted Liverpool wins in the prediction league.

Well there are lies, damned lies and statistics. N'gog has scored 5 goals against humble opposition in the Europa League. Both Torres and N'gog have one Premier League goal.

It's true that N'gog is capable of taking chances on a good day, but he adds little to our game otherwise, he is weedy and a bit languid.

If I bought LFC and I had a lot of money, I'd surround torres with players of quality that both gave him 'decent' service and allowed him to rested now and then without the quality of the first team dipping.
currently torres is being used like a cart horse.

this isn't a ngog v torres arguement, this is a 'sulky torres no good to anyone' arguement.

I'd only want a team of players who are willing to fight for the cause when the chips are down. It's all very well to be a star in a good team and only show up when things are going well.

You are far to harsh on Fernando. He has been out for a long time, and no proper training. So his physical situation has not been 100%

Then we talk him into not leaving by giving him lots of promises, and what we give is a team filled with Poulsen, Lucas, Konchesky, Jovanovic etc.... Fucking bullshit team. What is that to serve a world beater? I bet you that the truth shown so far is quite another story that Roy toutes his ears full off when he was actually going through his alternatives.

Third of all we have played fucking rubbish. We have no attacking plan. We as a team has managed far less shots on goal this season than our mighty opponents has against us. We have no fucking clue how to attack other than play the ball up there and figure out something.

And last Torres has actually tried to put in some good shifts. However he has been hapless alone. No crosses bar the ones he puts in himselves, and no support whatsoever in attack.

unless things radically change in the near future i.e. new owners who are willing to invest in the team I think torres is off anyway.

Is he shite. How many cup games and Euro games has he played? He's not being used as a fucking cart horse, the only issues since last season are those cunts for his national team trying to play him while he's not 100%, Roy has been careful with him without being overly protective like Rafa was. N'Gog is our top scorer because he's played a fair few games.
