We've got about 5 'top priorities' this summer.

LB has to be the biggest issue, because we haven't got any at all.

Agreed, but with Glen Jo doing the job, and us serving up so many clean sheets, surely our decade long lack of a winger is a bigger need?

What do we think about this guy for the left wing?

I haven't seen him at all, but heard someone say he was special...he doesn't play for a fancy club in Europe either, so it may be easy to get him on the cheap?

Looks like we have a chance at Hazard after all.

Lille winger Eden Hazard admits he finds all the speculation regarding his hugely coveted future a “pleasure†amid rumoured interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, although he warned any potential suitor that he is committed to the Ligue 1 side.

Hazard has warned any of the sides keen on retaining his services that it will be the sporting project on offer and not the money that attracts him away from Lille.

“How would I choose my future club? They would be sporting reasons. A club that plays good football, not kick and rush for a tall centre-forward.

"But if I had the desire to join a big club I would have left already. I am under contract until 2014 and am fine at Lille."

"I have a career strategy. I am not looking anywhere else. I am completely committed to Lille,

"There are three months remaining to get a trophy, then we will talk."

I see. The new Torres theory of loyalty is spreading.

Young would cost upward of £15M and there'll like be a bidding war.

There's quite a few lads here who are critical of Young's consistency.

Houllier is said to be sniffing around the lad priced at €7M. So would Shaqiri and N'zogbia represent value for money while filling 2 winger slots?

One thing for sure, come summertime we need to be smart in the market.

Maybe if they're bought for Sunderland.

Hahahaaa Keni, isn't that the clubs philosophy. Sign them young and represent value?

BR:

Just two years back Liverpool has the combination of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano at the center of their midfield - arguably one of the best holding and defensive mid-fielders in the world at that time.

In just two years time, it is their departure that is being cited as one of the reasons for Liverpool's downfall, Alonso's more than that of Mascherano.

Lucas has improved by leaps and bounds this season. Meireles, initially bought to play the central mid-fielder role, has excelled in his more advanced role, leaving Gerrard to play at the center of the field.

However, with Gerrard not getting any younger, and only Poulson to replace any player in case of an injury, Liverpool would ideally want to reinforce this department as well.

The list would looks at a few players who might be recruited to fulfill that requirement.

Charlie Adam
Current Club : Blackpool

Expected Price : £10m

Charlie Adam was the subject of the famous approach from Liverpool in January. The midfielder had also put in a transfer request, which was rejected by Blackpool.

Holloway did not want to part with the midfielder and Blackpool rejected two bids from Liverpool on the deadline day rumored to be £8.5m and £10m.

The 25-year-old Scot has been one of the inspirational players for the Tangerines and has been one of the reasons for their impressive showing this season, with accolades arriving from across the Premier League.

With the Liverpool midfield desperately looking for some creativity, he may well be the player who solves that problem.

Redknapp admitted to a failed bid by Spurs in January and may well look to renew their interest in the summer. Alex Ferguson also openly praised the midfielder and may well rival Liverpool and Spurs for the signing of the Scot.

However, with more options available in the summer, Adam would be hoping that the interest of the big clubs does not diminish and he is able to secure the dream move that was denied to him in January.

Alberto Aquilani
Current Club : Liverpool (on Loan to Juventus)

Expected Price : Free (if a deal is not reached with Juventus)

Alberto Aquilani is cited as one of the biggest failed signing of Rafa Benitez. Brought in to replace Xabi Alonso for £20m from Roma, he spent most of the time on the doctor's table during his stint at Anfield.

In the few games that he actually appeared for the Reds, he had impressed most people with his skills.

However, at the start of the season, Roy Hodgson decided that Aquilani was surplus to the requirements and sent him out on loan to Juventus, when Liverpool was clearly short of options in the midfield.

He has excelled in his stint at the Turin club and has also won the Player of the month once this season and has forged a successful partnership with Melo in the center of midfield.

Liverpool had inserted a £13m buyout clause in the loan deal and with Aquilani's impressive performances and his open confession about his preference for staying in Italy, most Liverpool fans had been resigned to the fact that the club had lost Aquilani for good.

However, recently Juventus has spoken about its financial difficulties and want to negotiate a deal for the midfielder for just £5m. Hence, Liverpool seem to have an opportunity to get the midfielder back, if they want to.

Blaise Matuidi
Current Club : Saint-Etienne

Expected Price : £6-8m

Arriving from Saint-Etienne, Comolli is a known admirer of the 23-year old French.

He has notched up over 120 appearances for the club and has also recently earned a call to the French national team.

He primarily plays as a defensive midfielder and his style is said to be somewhat similar to Mascherano, with him being described as a "fierce and strong tacker".

At only 23-years of age, he would fit in very well into FSG's youth policy.

However, the singing of the youngster might not be without competition as clubs like Juventus and Arsenal are also expected to be in the race.

However, with Comolli in-charge at Liverpool, he might just be able to use his Saint-Etienne connections to land the youngster for Liverpool.

Armin Bacinovic
Palermo
Expected Price : £12m

The 21-year old was bought from the Slovenian club Maribor in the summer of 2010 and he has immediately been able to become a regular first team member at Palermo.

His tackling and high work rate had already impressed the fans at Palermo and they are not expected to let him go for cheap a they consider him to be a star for the future.

With a host of premier league clubs including Chelsea, Spurs and local rivals Everton also chasing the youngster, securing the signing might not be a walk in the park.

At just 21 years of age, he has already made 5 appearances for his senior national team in addition to his 10 appearances for the U-21s.

FSG might just be tempted to enter the bidding war for the player considering his promise and age.

The Youngsters
With youngsters like Shelvey also developing nicely as central midfielders, the more urgent requirement seems to be in the defensive midfielder area rather than in the holding playmaker type.

With only Poulson as the back-up to the improving Lucas, Liverpool might very well be required to buy a defensive midfielder.

Whether Liverpool buys a player, or relies on the development of Shelvey and Spearing is yet to be seen.

Someone did mention Adam Barton before, I just cannot recall who.

Liverpool are weighing up a £2.5million bid for Preston North End midfielder Adam Barton.

Liverpool scouts have watched the 20-year-old extensively this season and assistant manager Sammy Lee made another check last Saturday as Barton helped Preston recover a draw against QPR

The former Blackburn trainee, who has been capped by Northern Ireland, is rated at £5m by Preston - but they may struggle to command that figure if they go down to League One

If Connor Whickham really is a Red, we should leave the lad alone, for both our sakes !

Rennes – Yann M’Vila is on Liverpool’s radar
By Paul Bailey February 24, 2011

Highly rated Frenchman Yann M’Vila is a summer transfer target for Liverpool reports talkSPORT.

The 20-year-old Rennes midfielder has been on the Reds’ radar ever since the arrival of their Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli, who knows the player well from his time spent in France.

M’Vila has seen his stock rise dramatically in recent months after a string of commanding performances in Ligue 1 saw him drafted into the France national team.

The ‘new Patrick Vieira’ as he has been donned by journalists in the French media is said to have been scouted by Liverpool in each of his last three fixtures.

And with glowing reports sent back to Comolli, an attempt to bring the player to Anfield in the summer looks increasingly likely.

Liverpool are keen to add extra steel alongside the likes of Steven Gerrard and Raul Meireles in the Reds’ midfield, and after a recent interview with a French newspaper, M’Vila paved the way for a potential move to England in the summer.

"Which league do I watch on TV? The Premier League! It matches my game," he told L'Equipe.

"It is a warrior's game, where you have to show plenty of fighting spirit. I'm a big fan of the English state of mind and tackling.â€

M'Vila clearly feels his style would be perfectly suited to the Barclays Premier League and would no doubt prove to be an asset for Liverpool.

But with the player contracted to Rennes until 2013 the Ligue 1 outfit are in no rush to sell, and it is thought it will take a bid upwards of £10m for Kenny Dalglish to land his man.

We keep getting linked with Blaise Matuidi as well though. Surely we won't be in for both?

I suppose we're giving ourselves contingency plans JJ.

It looks like some sort of marketing campaign for the new season - we're getting three new "M"idfielders - Marveaux, Maltudi and M'Villa.

Or maybe we're getting some guy from Asia instead and the 3 names hide some clues to that chap's identity.

Aren't we all, in our different ways. Billy Connolly reckons Scottish people are a sort of pale blue. My Maltese dad was darker than many mixed-race folks, though I don't take after him in that respect.

Looks like we're getting some 'tinted' players to add colour to the team.
