A regular winner for Bayern, proven quality in both deep lying midfield position and as a no. 10, and at 24,much untapped potential.

One year left on his contract and seemingly available given Bayern 's hardball stance with him.

Utd out of the running (according to Van Gaal in the guardian just now) so we haven't to compete with a ridiculous wage offer.

Why aren't we all over this one (apparently)?

If the scum are out of the picture, I suspect he'll sign a new contract with Bayern on silly money. He'll only leave there for someone who'd pay him massive wages, or one of the big players in the champions league I'd have thought.

This story about the Mancs' pursuit has been going on for a while now; it all just feels like Kroos and his agent pushing Bayern to meet their demands for the new contract.

[article]Jamie Jackson has published an article titled “Louis van Gaal ends Manchester United’s interest in Toni Kroos”.

According to the broadsheet, “Van Gaal, who is aware of Kroos’s abilities from his own time managing Bayern, has decided he should not be a target for the club this close season.”[/article]

Reading it again, it could also mean he's just going to sit out and wait for Kroos (and/or advise him) to enter the final 6 months of his contract and sign him on a pre-contract for the following season.

For the 18m odd he'd go for (with a year left on his contract), albeit with high wages, he'd be a seriously good /seemingly perfect fit addition to our midfield.

Baffling to me.

Hopefully people are just coming out with all of these obvious links, putting 2+2 together because of Van Gaal.

Like when Rafa joined and everyone thought Aimar would follow, but we ended up with Pelligrino instead.

Didn't someone post in another thread saying that Kroos' agent has said he's staying at Bayern for another year?

Yeah, @Hansern mentioned it in the rumours thread.

Kroos agent confirmed he'll stay at Bayern for one more year. I still think he'll sign a new contract.

But, if he goes to Utd he'll be on 200+ k wages pr week. Insane. The story of the deal being close was from the Daily Star or something.

Isn't that just his agent hardballing Bayern by saying of you don't offer him a good deal / let him move on now, he'll go for nothing next summer?

Could be, but both Bayern and his agent said he'll stay a few months ago. Things change obvs.

He would have cost the Mancs 58 mill in fee and wages so I'd stay clear if he wants the same wage...

nah fuck signing him on fat fat wages, i think he'll stay at bayern and get a bumper contract, although they have enough midfield prospects to cash in on him

This from a Bayern supporter :

It staggers me how different the view on Kroos is from the outside to the view in Germany. English view seems to be that he is prolific CM, scoring goals, providing assists. Most of you seem to think he is the main target man at Munich and you wonder why we don't want to pay him the money he wants.

From our point, there are a lot of good reasons for it. He is a good player, no doubt about it, very talented. But he is in no way our key player or target man. He got a lot of games this season yes, featuring in every important one, getting the most gametime. But that's due to him being basically our only midfielder this year without injuries. I mean look at it, Schweinsteiger, Martinez, Thiago, all out for large part of the season. That would have been the midfield this year and it was when all of them were fit.

He is a passing machine. Problem is, besides that, he isn't offering much. He's good at shooting from the distance, but he's not using that all to often. He isn't a dribbler, and he is slow. He's not able to play a defensive role, don't EVER try that. It failed miserably, just look at the game against Italy at the Euros.
Also he tends to get lost at big games, contributing nothing. That's the main reason he's not a starter for Germany and disliked by a lot of fans. He's lethargic not only sometimes but often.

In this case, statistics don't lie. In a side scoring nearly 100 goals in the Bundesliga, he scored 2 of them, assisting 4. 1 in Champions League and 2 Assists in 12 games. Besides players like Weiser and Hojbjerg, he is the worst scorer in the team, even behind Shaqiri.
Why do we want to keep him at a certain price? He's very good at keeping the ball, his passing skills are amazing, he never fell lower than 90% completion. He's extraordinary in resisting harsh pressing. Important for Guardiola. But Thiago offers more already.

But, with contributing not enough offensively and being useless defensively, he is a very specific (and, should someone give him the money he wants, a very expensive) answer to a very specific question. He will always be over par in teams with high ball possession, but I don't see him to ever be a key player in a truly great side. All in all, you have to ask yourselfs: does our squad and style of play even inherit the question at hand? In my opinion, if this transfer is to happen, United will be very disappointed due to high expectations.

Bet he'd still want the wages, Dan. That carrot having been dangled in front of him, he won't easily abandon it now.
