We are in a mess, this is true, and we do need to keep the payments on our debt up, but this would have been much easier to do had we qualified for the Champions League, which we certainly had a good enough squad to do and chance after chance of doing, all of which we missed.

This is true enough also, for me last season the problem, apart from the injuries to key players, was the dissapointment of not seeing significant investment/strengthening badly affected the morale believe and desire of the team. Gerrard didnt look arsed for half of it, Carragher started asleep, Torres was uber crocked and aquilani a busted flush. A nightmare from beginning to end and IMO it boils down to the sense that the club is a sinking ship, the big players knew that even after finishing second and playing out their skins no more reinforcements arrived and good players were sold. It must have been soul destroying. Its not much of an incentive to your best players if all you can say to them is play out your skins to keep us in the champs league so we can make our payments easier.

The problem with selling our best players will give selling teams the idea that we're cash rich and we'll end up paying over the odds for players.

We're at a distinct disadvantage the longer it takes for us to sell and replace players!
Actually, the problem with selling our best players, is that they're our best players, & we're selling them.
hahaha....

indeed.

I'm glad somebody else is seeing things clearly! its a fucking car crash....

So we were shit because our players souls were destroyed after seeing no investment made after finishing second?

TBF though, it's a car crash that hasn't happened yet.

The only source worth a damn who also called houghton in April has said to get your money on stevie staying at evens on betfair, so I'm pretty sure he's not going anywhere.

Hmmm, well I see your point on that but that theory does seem a bit of a stetch too far in order to put all the blame on the owners and none on the manager!

The owners take their share of the blame for the situation we are in without a doubt, but so does Benitez.

Is it MarkMC? Might be worth a couple of quids then, he's 2,1 to stay on betfair atm. Decent odds.

Engulfed by impending doom, the sale of some of our best players has a sense of inevitability.

Wouldn't we like them all to stay and start the new season on the front foot. However, it probably won't happen. Roy has to make the best of a bad situation!

Yeah it's MarkMc thats said Stevie's staying.

Interestingly, he was told he was off a the end of the season & now he's changed his mind. Lends some credibility to the rumours that he wouldn't stay if rafa did.

Indeed it does

And all you need for corroborating evidence is *that* clip of Gerrard's face when Torres got subbed

Good stuff, I'll be delighted if we keep hold of Stevie, because chances are we'll keep hold of Nando. Is there a post on this (from Mark)?

I know it's probably retarded, but if we had to keep one of 'The Three' I would choose Stevie every time, all 'transfer value' and age and whatever to one side.

I don't care how old he is, or 'saleable', he's *ours*

Yep, gotta agree.

If we could only keep one, I'd pick Gerrard.

However, if all 3 left, I'd be most pissed off with Torres for leaving.

I'd choose Gerrard over Torres if I knew we could get another bonafide goalscorer in, but I'm terrified of going back to the days between decent strikers.

I'd want everyone to stay, but if not we must not get raped on price. Gerrard is going, and I'll support him wherever he goes.

Mascherano is the only one of our big names that will leave.
