This Old Lady Can

Nah, I dont think he's decided what to do yet. But if he hasnt signed a new deal before we enter November/December, it will be quite clear that he'll sign a pre contract with someone in January.

Really dont want to lose him. Can and Keita could be part of a beast of a midfield in the future.

Ever the optimist, Hansern.

He definitely has at least a strong idea of what he's going to do. And the fact there's no indication that he's going to sign points to him leaving, I'm afraid.

I think LFC fans should create some kind of campaign to convince Can to stay. Overwhelm his twitter with messages telling him how important he is to the club and the fans, bring banners to the stadium or make up a song about how Torino is a shithole compared to Liverpool and Italian food and weather is overrated 🙂, stop him on the street and tell him how handsome he is etc. No player would be able to resist a sustained love campaign from LFC fans.

The only issue with can is that he doesn't dominate games as often as he should. When he's good he's really good but sometimes I want him to get a hold of the midfied more than he has done. Can is a great young player undoubtedly but if he went there are other talents out there. The only rankle is that we would have to pay for his replacement. But surely klopp is involved in his valuation. If klopp thought he was worth 150k a week then surely he would sanction it....I don't think it's about wages as much as it is about playing time and role like Chamberlains issue with Arsenal

I get your point but there's not many 23 year old midfielders dominating midfields in the top leagues week in, week out. It will definitely come with time and it looks like we'll miss out on it.

It's a real enigma. Can seems totally committed to LFC in his performances and interviews, he's continuing to improve, and he seems to have a good relationship with Klopp. Does he have some longstanding ambition to play for Juve and/or in Italy?

I've heard nothing to that effect and this is why I'm still optimistic that he'll sign before the new year. I think he's just a highly ambitious young lad who always carefully assesses his options; I remember the negotiations for his contract when he initially signed were unexpectedly protracted as well. Last season he was feeling miserable playing through a nagging injury, not in his favored position (which he blamed for aggravating the said injury) and out of CL – it's understandable that despite his good relationship with Klopp he wanted to keep his options open, after all he would not lose anything by doing so. Now I think by waiting so late to sign, leveraging interest from Juve and proving his value on the pitch, which wasn't the case for much of last season, he'll probably be able to get a significantly larger salary offer from LFC. Maybe I'm totally misreading the situation, but somehow I'm not too worried – I think he'll sign a new deal by December at the latest.

Well it could be argued that playing for Juve is seen as a step up from us. Constantly winning their league and having such a strong record in the CL.

Why not ?

1) good pay rise
2) competing in league that plays at a pedestrian pace
3) competing in a league with just one team capable of winning the league
4) guaranteed CL footy every season
5) less likely to get injured when not playing a Klopp system
6) because of point 5 more likely to have a longer career.
7) can tell the children and grand children i won 6 league titles and played in 4 CL finals.

So easy tin the other leagues guys...over here you have to compete with 5-6 teams for a league title and are not guaranteed CL footy.

Yeah he's deffo going. Shame as I was just starting to really like him and was having fantasies of me giving him a good rimming for years to come. Oh well.

Absolutely tragic if we lose him, the club should offer him at least £150k a week. I'd like to see he and Keita as our midfield two next year, they'd be perfect.

But have we yet established what specifically he wants? If it's money, then give him the raise. If it's any guarantee about playing in a particular position, no one apart from goalkeepers merit that.

Kinda OK with him leaving now that Keita is signing next season. Will be sad to see Can potentially develop into a world player right before our eyes and lose him for free.

He's not THAT great. I don't want him to leave, and he currently looks as though he's pushing on to a higher level, but the months and months these talks have gone is absolutely ridiculous. Really, the club needs to get a grip - after a certain time it should be obvious whether he wants to stay or not, at which point the club needs to take the initiative and either close the deal or plan on a schedule for securing a replacement. What the hell is happening?

EDWARDS: What do you actually want?
CAN: Guess.
EDWARDS: A raise?
CAN: It's good but it's not right.
EDWARDS: Money and...a speed boat?
CAN: Nope.
EDWARDS: Er...any clues?
CAN: No, no clues.
EDWARDS: Oh god...um...is it animal, vegetable or mineral?
CAN: No clues!
EDWARDS: An on-site barber?
CAN: Nice idea, but no.
EDWARDS: I do have other things to do you know.

Sheesh - I hope we don't lose this lad.

CAN MAY SIGN JUVE DEAL IN JANUARY

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can is expected to sign a pre-contract agreement to join Juventus in January, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The German's current contract at Anfield expires next summer, and with the player having so far refused to put pen to paper on a new deal, he can leave the club for free next summer.

Not to worried given this is the source.

Best case scenario is we win a trophy or 2 this year and it convinces him not to go.

But he's well off.

If I were him, I'd be pissed off about losing my place to Wijnaldum last season. Usually new signings like that start on the bench and have to earn their spot, but Can was immediately binned off and replaced by a passenger. Then, after earning his place back himself, we go out and start publically sucking Keita's dick. He's probably fuming at this point.

We probably went out for keita because Can has been playing silly beggars.

Guys - last season he had a chance to make an impact while Mane, and Coutinho were out. It was an opportunity for all our players to show their worth - we ended up losing/drawing most games and going out of all cup competitions and losing top spot in the league. Essentially - none of our midfield players made a fucking difference, as I have said - you cannot read too much into the Arsenal game - as there was more space than space itself has to offer for a midfielder to run into. So yeah - Gini probably got hired last season because Klopp recognized a need in his first half season, and this season Keita go booked up because Can and co were not good enough last season when the two semi-front men were out. Makes sense to me - lets see how effective Can is when the busses start coming to Anfield, and the busses keep appearing at the away grounds.
