I'd like to think that if it was just money we'd get it over the line.

The problem we have when it comes to the likes of Juve is that they are CL regulars and win titles.

Maybe we can win out with the "you're developing into a top player here, don't fuck with a good thing" angle. But that'd only be buying time.

We either demonstrate that we're a top tier club by winning shit and qualifying for the CL repeatedly or accept that we're a stepping stone.
He needs a Gerrard winning the CL vibe this year.

So if we're shit then it's on us if he goes

That's what I was thinking too, success might be a big reason to look elsewhere. Maybe if we do well enough this season, he has a great year and sees a better quality of player being signed, that'd be enough.

He's definitely replaceable but its a shame to have to.

Convince him to sign a 2 year extension. A "prove it" extension for both us and the club. Hopefully convince him and lock him down long term then if we can't now

Maybe we need to move away from Nivea to his preferred skin care and hair gel providers

That would make no sense for him though.

Would allow him to prove he's worthy of a bigger long term deal either with is or with another large club.

But you're right. I'm thinking of it like North American sports where contracts mean something. If he does well, he'll just demand a raise regardless of how long his contract is.

My bad.

Can is the signing I want the most in the next 2 days... he is a very good player and clearly settling in well now.

Am I the only one who is concerned his rise in performance is just to earn a bumper contract before he slips back into average/poor town?

Juve would have to deny it, given it wouldn't be legal without our agreement prior to Jan 1st.

That doesn't mean it hasn't been sorted. I reckon it has.

He's really coming on well, but it's only been a few games in to the season. I'd be really sad and pissed off to see him go, but it was only a few months ago that most folk here were bemoaning his performances.

[article]Juventus director general Beppe Marotta confirms they will “watch” the Emre Can situation if he doesn’t renew with Liverpool.

The Germany international has a contract due to expire in June 2018.

“Emre Can is an excellent player, I don’t know if he will renew with Liverpool, but we’ll stay on the sidelines and watch,” Marotta told Calciomercato.com.

The Bianconeri had already hinted they were ready to start negotiations in January, as Can will be a free agent next summer.[/article]

EMRE!!! Look at what we are *building!!! Stay here! Be part of a future that EARNS trophies!

*if we sign all these boss players.

Yeah , as I've said for ages he's the best midfielder we have and has a far higher ceiling than the others , to lose him now would be an absolute travesty , especially on a free . Give him 200k a week and get on a 5 year deal with captaincy asap rocky

Indeed. Its 50m minimum to replace him, so split that 50m over 5 years and give him whatever that is per week.

More chatter in Italy of him agreeing to join juventus once his contract expires..

I don't understand why there's been no more news on the contract front. Surely they should be making more of an effort to keep him.

Probably.

There's an outside chance that the additions to the squad and a good first half of the season might convince him to stay

Here's hoping but can't imagine Salah as the only notable first team arrival and the whole Coutinho mess will be overly convincing.

Yeah i've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that he'll be leaving on a free next summer. Bit gutted as he has the potential to develop into a top CM.

Nah, I dont think he's decided what to do yet. But if he hasnt signed a new deal before we enter November/December, it will be quite clear that he'll sign a pre contract with someone in January.

Really dont want to lose him. Can and Keita could be part of a beast of a midfield in the future.
