I do try to remain positive Bren, even if i have my doubts. I'll continue to do so, even if there some prick just itching to say 'errr you said hed be fine' each and every time. Which i guess there will be, unless ya know your keyboard breaks or something.
I thought hodgson would be a sensible if uninspiring holding manager. Turns out hes just another Benitez. So rather than pretend im happy with him i say we cut our losses and try again. With a sexy coach.
Not martin o'neill ffs he wears trackies and slip on shoes!!

"He's just another Benitez"? In his fucking *dreams*. Please stop bracketing Budgie with Benitez. It's pitiful.
He is. Same shit formations, same shit tactics, same shit substitutions, same results. Theyre both shit.

Fucking hell I wish Roy was as shit as Rafa, we'd have a Europen Cup win, and FA Cup win, numerous exciting semi finals, 4 out of the next 6 years playing in the Champions League and terrifying the whole of Europe, they quaked in there boots when we were still in the draw, 4 top 3 or better finishes, 4 finals all that to to look forward too
Yay! lets all hope roy can win no trophies in five years! blaaaaaaarrrrggghhhh
You don't have to hope, he's got 30 years doing it, anyway he won't be here.

Anyway he couldn't even win 2 fucking away matches last season, and some (like you) thought that was Liverpool quality
I dont even know what that means. Anyhoo.

12 Fulham 38 11 3 5 27 15 1 7 11 12 31 -7 46

The highlited bit is Fulhams away wins last season. The magnificent 46 Points, is what got 'Steady the ship' Roy his job, because I don't know what the fuck else could have, it wasn't getting to the Europa League final, because Rafa got the sack for getting us 2 European League finals and winning one

Why is it that we not in the Champions League this season?
The Yanks ?
Well not really.

The Yanks didn't force Benitez to sell Alonso and replace him with Aquilani (then not even play him)
The Yanks didn't force Benitez to play Lucas 50 times last season
The Yanks weren't responsible for us dropping points to Portsmouth, Sunderland, Stoke, Birmingham, Wigan, Fulham, Wolves and Blackburn and going out of the cup at home to Reading.

We hear a lot on here about Benitez finishing 2nd, yet when we drop to 7th place its not his fault.
By the same logic, then surely it wouldn't be Hodgson's fault now either would it? Or was mangerial responsbility only removed last season then brought right back this season?

Benitez was a failure, and Hodgson is looking like he will be one too.

I agree Richey.

Truth is we've been shafted from both sides. Managers who haven't quite been able to cut it and owners who couldn't care less about the club.

I asked the question of who's fault was it that we did not qualify for the CL. The response was 'The Yanks'. That is the point that I countered.

I do not intend to go trawling through the thousands of threads where this argument has come up to check who has held what opinion and I don't want to start claiming that people hold a certain view without being sure.

What is YOUR opinion on why we did not qualify for the Champions League?
I said the same yesterday. Moores, Parry, Benitez, Hodgson, Hicks, Gilette and every single player who has been on the books in the past 6 years with the possible exception of Stevie Gerrard share equal fucking blame for where we are now. None of them are guilt free.

let's get this straight once and for all

no one is saying rafa was without fault
no one is saying last season was anything other than a disaster
no one is saying rafa didn't buy poor players
no one is saying that sometimes rafa didn't make baffling decisons

but in the 6 years he was here:
he won stuff
we were argubly THE most feared team in europe
he signed quality (along with some dross, admittedly)
he returned the pride back to the club and to the city

the rafa fans simply say he deserved another season, they don't try and absolve him of blame.

i've never seen ANYONE on here trying to absolve rafa of blame for last season, all i really see of that kind of idiocy is people claiming all our recent problems are down to benitez, that benitez was a 'failure', that benitez is a fat cunt, that we played awful football for the last 3 years, on and on.

the vast majority of the unblanaced bollocks on this site comes from the benitez-haters, not his supporters.

Yet, when I just asked the question about who was 'to blame' for us not qualifying for the CL, the answer I got from a 'rafa fan' (who I actually like, so I am not having a go at him) was "The Yanks".

Does that not sound a little bit like absolving Benitez of blame?

And then we have had the countless other threads with the arguments about lack of investment being a reason why we fucked up last year. Is that not absolving Benitez of blame too?

Oh, was that the one written in crayon with a picture of Purslow with devil horns crudely drawn on the top? Yeah I filed that under 'L' for loon.

Brendan didn't you want Rafa sacked on numerous occasions? I remember one thread when you exclaimed that he should "LEAVE NOW".

When Roy was announced it was obvious he didn't have the CV or tactical nous as Rafa. You added a caveat to your Rafa out bandwagon that we should keep him if it meant Roy comes in but at the stage Roy was all but announced. Many decided to support Roy as our new manager, regardless of the fact whether they supported the original decision to appoint him. Now the odd poster actually was in favour of Roy coming in. I remember a few prominent poster (Squiggles, Vlad and a few others) we're in support of the decision. They we're sick of Rafa and fancied a change. They hoped that Roy would come in and make simple decision and appease certain star players. Nothing wrong with that is there? Sadly, Roy's short tenure in charge hasn't turned out in a way we had all hoped and not many will shed a tear if he is moved on if we attain new owners. Personally, I didn't want Roy in but felt Rafa needed to go. Pellegrini was my obvious dream target as Mourinho and Van Gaal we're nothing more than unattainable pipe dreams.

I don't see the need for the Anti Roy brigade to twist the knife. There is no winners, Liverpool is the only loser. I can't wait for the new manager to come in. How dare posters or fan's alike support the man or live in hope that he will be better than the previous one. Would it be better if we we're all realists and lambasted the manager from the off. This way we can all be a part of the 'told you so' brigade. It would be a pretty boring that's for sure.

I don't think this is the fault of Benitez and have never said it was.

Hodgson has a capable enough squad, full of international players, and he is making a complete hash of things. He is the manager and it is his responsibility.

By the same token though I can't really accept the likes of CuntKing sticking their neb back in here acting all smug saying how we should have kept Benitez afterall.

Just because Hodgson is turning out to be shit, doesn't suddenly mean that the reasons we had for getting rid of Benitez were not valid.

Haha,

Has this turned into a Roy vs Rafa debate? It's a no win situation for everyone.

With the bunch of plodding cnuts we've got in our side, I'm not sure *ANY* manager would have us playing the sort of football you want Spider (and me for that matter).

Until we get some (more) money to rebuild this bunch of shite that Rafa assembled, we'll be playing cautious, safety-first football and only letting the handbrake off when the other team is already ahead.

There's not enough talent, skill or balance to the side to sensibly play any other way, unfortunately. (and yes, I genuinely DO believe we don't have enough talent).
That is patently untrue. Unsurprising given what we've been subjected to, but nevertheless sensationalist. There is easily enough talent in our squad to play a different brand of football, and to get better results doing it. Otherwise, what the fuck are we all complaining about?
Honestly, can you name me an attacking, balanced formation with everyone playing in their best position? I'm guessing whatever formation you come up with, we'll be lacking something somewhere or compromising one of our better players. Hence, my statement.

Fucking hell I wish Roy was as shit as Rafa, we'd have a Europen Cup win, and FA Cup win, numerous exciting semi finals, 4 out of the next 6 years playing in the Champions League and terrifying the whole of Europe, they quaked in there boots when we were still in the draw, 4 top 3 or better finishes, 4 finals all that to to look forward too
Why is it that we not in the Champions League this season?

I was just adding a bit more fuel to the fire mate.

I think i openly stated last season that Rafa had to take the majority of the blame for where we finished.
I really dont know why youre bothering Richey. Houllier had nothing to do with the side that won the European cup, Rafa had nothing to do with the side who won nothing for 5 years despite outspending almost every other team i the league, and Rafa has nothing to do with this squad now. You cleeearly didnt get the memo.
Thats a bit rich Oncy, seeing as you blame Rafa "100% for where we are now". I really don't understand why you hate him so much mate?

I do like you Oncy, i just can't stand your opinion concerning Benitez.

Yeah true, though I think it's fair to blame Rafa 99% for the shit squad we have now (Roy with Poulsen being the 1%), but as for where we are now as a club, that's shared between Rafa, previous managers, the owners, the players, the board members.. and now Roy.

I've been saying 4-3-3 for over a season now. That would get the best out of everyone.

Do we even have 3 strikers?
Yes - Torres, Wash, Babel, Ecclestone, even Pacheco who's more of a second striker than a true midfielder.
I think Kuyt and Jovanovic are missing from that list
