Apparently Ballache has rubbished the Ruud rumours on the offal.

Yeah, but he's a know nothing smug cunt. Who also regularly spouts misinformation on behalf of Rafa, so that, means less than fuck all.

hmmm.. I generally think that too Jon, but the Offal have passed it so why would they do that for us to then turn round and sign him? I know Balague is there to work the media, and thus other clubs etc on behalf of Rafa, but for him to dismiss it and for it to be published on the Offal, well.. it just doesn't make sense.

Ive just read the story and its in the media watch section with a disclaimer too, so it's not actually an Official story on the site, just picked up from the press. Fair do's.

Yeah, it's not 'sanctioned' by the club or the offal. It'd make sense to want trhis out there if we are interested to try to make Real think we're not desperate, he's the only striker we're linked with, so if they think that's the only option we have they may play hardball re how much wages they'll pay etc.

Ballgaue was in our work buying a kettle the other day.

For Rafa? I bet he asked for a coffee maker. Tsk.

Real Madrid are preparing a £60m move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, who is their top summer transfer target, and will pursue him in the same way they chased Cristiano Ronaldo last season.
Full story: Daily Star

Liverpool are set to sign Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy next week and also hope to bring in his Real Madrid team-mate Rafael van der Vaart on loan until the end of the season.
Full story: The S*n

As well as Van Nistelrooy, Reds boss Rafael Benitez is poised to bring in Atletico Madrid winger Maxi Rodrigez on loan - but he will have to offload striker Andriy Voronin first to free up space on the club's wage bill and hopes to sell him to CSKA Moscow or Dynamo Moscow in a £1.5m deal.
Full story: Daily Telegraph

Voronin is set to join German side Hertha Berlin, who he played for on loan last season, in a permanent £2.5m deal.

RVV would be a fantastic loan signing for us.

If we managed to sign up VDV , RVN and Rodrigues we might stand a slim chance of fourth spot, dependent on how quickly they settled.

Thing is, and forgive me for being cynical, if we do manage to bring even a couple of these players in, why the fuck did we not do something similar in the summer, then perhaps we would not be in the mess we are now.

regards

I guess because the Americans, having just achieved 2nd, thought we can still get into the top four without bringing more players in.

Perhaps so, but it was very short sighted. Every man and his dog knew we were going to struggle when Torres was out, and could see the squad had suddenly become very thin, so if we knew it surely the corridors of power at Anfield knew it,and the repercussions.
They also knew, as we did, that City could be a serious contender for a top six finish and be in a position to compete with us.
These buys are short term panic buys, but the situation was as bad in the summer.
Yes, we have had injuries, in truth it's probably no worse that most of the other top clubs, we just don't have the strength in depth to ride it out like we used to.
At least these signings (if they materialise) will give us a far better bench, but hopefully not at the expense of Pacheco

regards

The market in the summer is very different to the one in Jan so maybe similar deals simply weren't available at the time.

That said, we really did need to bring some more players in the summer and our failure to do so has unfortunately cost us. Well, that and half our squad playing fucking shit for months.

Only ten points behind United.... race for fourth pah! 😉

IF we can sign in RVV and RVN and maxi.... thats gotta be a good thing surely, all three of them are ( or have been ) quality players and either way if it means we get rid of Babel and Voronin im all for it.

Id be happy if we signed either one of Maxi or RVV tbh....

happy and fucking amazed.

We needed a striker.
Rafa put £18M and another £15M+ on a RB and injury prone midfielder.
He thought we could cope with Lucas and Mascher in the middle. Monumental mistake.
He'd just signed a contract when he got full control of the technical side of the club.
This is entirely his responsability if we are 7th in the table right now.
No one else's.

I agree with some of that but there are a few too many question marks surrounding that summer to agree with the bit in bold. For example, were the rumours that Rafa was denied the possibility of agreeing a player exchange + cash for Alonso ever properly quashed?

He wanted Johnson and got the money for Alonso's replacement.
He wanted to extend his major players' contratcs. He got it.
The Yanks are not perfect but thats a business, Rafa got most of what he wanted. He cant have it all.
He got the contract that most of managers are dreaming of.
No excuse Rafa. Now get 4th spot and bye.

I had to take you of ignore to see what you were writing Le chac, but i do as a RCDNWer agree with you. Johnson was a fucking ridiculous idea, not that he isnt good going forward because he is but because generally i feel it was a poor use of obvioulsy limited funds. I suspect rafa got royally screwed over when it came to spending the Alonso sale funds ( another fucking tragedy) but nonetheless, weve obviously needed another decent forward for fucking ages, selling an able right back for peanuts and buying in a flawed defender expensively was a major mistake IMO. The main damage done was not only to the on pitch personell but to the players minds, they petulantly sulked their way into the season and it just got worse and worse. Lucas's atrocious performance against Villa in the opening weeks just confirmed to everyone what a disaster the summer was and we just knew in game 2 we were gonna win fuck all. The fact that Lucas was one of our best players the other day was pleasing, limited and shit though he is at least hes fucking trying. Maybe they are gonna snap out of it and start playing but its too late now for it to be considered anything other than a fuck up of a season, Rafa gambled and he lost.

I still blame the owners for putting him in the position were he needed to gamble , but still, we didnt need to spunk 20M on a right back who cant defend and thats purely rafas fault.

If however Rafa had lined up Jovetic with money from Alonsos sale ...as the rumour goes.... and the owners stuck the money against there debts.... different picture.

And i certainly do not want Rafa to go at the end of the season, that would be daft.
