Agree totally with that. It takes the pressure off a player knowing they can be bedded in slowly. Especially when we play an intricate system that appears to be challenging to learn, it does not make sense to plug a new player into a vacant spot nearly as much as it does to cultivate them into the role and force them to earn their space.

I am asking the following questions because I am clueless about valuations and business and not because I am disputing or disagreeing with you.

I know we have a valuation of the order of 1 or 2 billion. But how realistic is that in terms of getting cash. Are there folks out there who are willing to part with 1 or 2 billion to own us. Maybe the Saudis or some other folks of that ilk. But even from their perspective, it seems the better strategy would be to buy someone like Newcastle for 300 million and then invest as needed to increase the value. Ten- twelve years ago, we were valued at what 200-300 million and we were actively looking to be sold. It is not like we had suitors lining at our doorstep. Even for part ownership will people part with 200 million to get 10% ownership of our club?
That implies they are buying for investment/profit. Which I don’t think is the primary imperative behind Middle Eastern or Russian, buyers.

Why forty percent? Matchday income is approx 15%, probs less now with new commercial deals, and that's for a whole season.
And we completed ca. ⅔ of last seasons. Even paying back £20m to the TV cos. will still mean we received just over 50% off expected matchday revenue.

Curtis Jones can replace Ox after this season. I love the Ox, but he’s the midfielder that is closest to leaving for me. After Gruijc and the enviteable Gini transfer obviously.
They are totally different players. It’s not a like for like.

I feel like Thiago wanting a new challenge means going back to Barca is unlikely. Interesting to see what Wijnaldum does if his protracted move fails. Will he push to leave?

Big Tall Paul Gorst says we've still not made any offer for Thiago.

Liverpool have not made a move for Thiago Alcantara. Bayern Munich are absolutely desperate to get a fee for him this summer, that much is clear.

Jeez we need to set up a go fund me page to buy this chap with FSG being brassic, he’d soon Be with us.

The only way we sign him is if Wijnaldum goes, and even then I wouldn't bank on it.

This has all been drummed by the Thiago and Bayern side. Been saying this all along. I don't think we're interested.

This 'haven't made an offer' actually means little. Now if it were 'the clubs are not communicating or in discussions' thats another issue.

That's basically what he's been told by the club. In fact, the words I heard were "utter nonsense" a few weeks back.

Ive never seen a transfer deal fall apart over a sum that small so if the above is true Id expect a deal concluded within the week, they are just haggling over add on payments

Seems a bit funny that 30mil Euros was touted as the fee all this while and now suddenly it's an extra 5. Goddamn if this will be the running version for the next few months.

Jamal Lewis....

Got your point, but according to Tsimikas interview, the deal had been in the works for a week, which at that time we were allegedly haggling with Norwich. We don't seem to be targeting anyone else as a Thiago alternative here.
