For the title, or for fourth place. With a lot of teams looking good this early on, notably Arsenal, Chelsea and City, could we find ourselves in a battle for fourth spot once again? We ain't gonna have the same record against the top four as we did last season, and with upcoming teams like Spurs and the like, we will drop further points.

So...in for the title or battle for fourth?

I think the race for the title will be even closer than last year, and that Chelsea, Utd, Arsenal, us and maybe even City will be up there. Citys two next games will shove what they're all about. They've won 3 games, but thats 3 games they should win. And every match I've seen the opposition have been just as good and deserved a point. So games against Utd and Arsenal will show what level they're on.

We've started poorly, but I think the top 4 will lose even more points this season compared to last. The only team that really look good are Chelsea, and they're sailing up as favourites for the title.

Spurs have won 4, but I don't see them challenging for a CL spot to be honest. My guess is 6th place.

We've made it hard for ourselves, but we should be thereabouts when the league is finished. IF Gerrard and Torres have a good season and stay fit. If Aquilani finds his feet quickly we would look much much better.

That's a few if's there mate. If Aquilani settles in been the biggest one. He ain't gonna be fit for another while, and Rafa is going to ease him in as much as possible. So I can see Lucas and Mascherano starting most games before Christmas. One thing I have noticed over the opening four games, has been the lack of penetration against the opposition. A lot of passing sideways from Lucas and Mascher. They need to be a lot more direct.
And our defence really needs to get the finger out. I am still shocked by Kevin Davies goal yesterday. they had four players free, in front of the goal. That is Sunday league defending right there.

From how we played yesterday we will be fighting for fourth.... so will Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd and Man city. Chelsea will finish top 2 for sure IMO.

From how we can play and from the determination and spirit we have.... 1st. We were rightly favourites before we sold Alonso, but maybe because he was from Pompey etc not everybody expected Johnson to be so good for us....lets see if we can grind out a few early results and stay in close touch and then go one better with aquilani instead of Alonso.

This year is a toss up between Chelsea and 5 challengers IMO we need to show we want it more than any of them cunts, refusal to lie down was a skill we learned the hard way last season against Wigan and Man City etc.... Judging from yesterday we still got that in spades. In the same way as i thought the team looked pissed off about the signings Sulky against spurs and Villa, what better reminder for them than yesterday must of just how fucking exciting and unstoppable we can be when we really get at teams.

One of our major problems under Benitez was trying to control a game so much that we lacked an urgency, when you are losing away at Bolton and seeing your season dissapear before its started and you roll your sleaves up and score great goals to win... gotta be a boost.

Maybe just maybe those defeats have done us a favour by making us desperate early doors.

We have Burnely, West Ham and Hull before we play Chelsea away. Hopefully everyone will be firing on all sylinders before that game.

We've made it harder for ourselves than anyone would have wanted, but it's way too early to be writing off our chances of the title.  I reckon even the champions, whoever they turn out to be, could well lose 4/5 games this season.

That's the thing, unlike any other year when you could easily point out, say the top two, that's not the case this year. And it ain't gonna be. I still cannot believe Utd have not bought a midfielder or striker. Yet. I just hope that after this international break, everybody come back fully fit, and looks a bit more arsed about playing. Some games a couple of years ago, where everyone expected 3 points are not the same now, and I feel that not having strengthened the squad, we are going to lose out.

last year, Chelsea won 8 away games in a row and they were huge favourites for the title, anyone remember? then we beat them at the Bridge and they went off the rails.

too early to make judgements yet.

But last year you promised all of us that they were gonna start dropping points, and hey ho, you were actually right.

Same prediction this year?

yes but I think we'll have to be a bit more patient.

We will be battling for fouth no doubt about it as all the teams have improved.

Bolton was a must win.
Just because you flavour your posts with the odd 'Of course i dont WANT us to lose' and 'i hope im wrong' doesnt make you sound any less of a twat.
'no doubt about it'?!
Fuck off.

So I'm twat because I don't think we will challenge this year? Fair enough Andy.

We are both entitled to our opinions. Just because I'm positive we won't challenge doesn't make a twat in the slightest FFS.
No, but the fact your willing to post it on a site full of Liverpool fans FOUR fucking games into the season following the season where we had our record points total even with our two best players playing sporadically and injured, and post it with such relish and finality fucking does. 'FFS' is fucking right Pat.

United lost 4 and won the league, meaning we can draw a line under the first few games, and in theory lose another two like last season and win the league. Of course we need to turn the draws into wins, but that is well within our grasp. Yes we may not do the double over Chelsea and Salford again, but we can pick up points elsewhere (eg, Stoke already).

Let's fucking win it.

when was the last time someone won the league losing 2 or their first 3 games?

i don't think we'll even be in the race, we'll be hit and miss like this until at least aquaman settles never mind plays and even then he may not be good enough.

so far this season we've beaten relegation fodder and been comprehensively beaten by teams that will finish outside the top 4.

Plus the fact that the same old doom and gloom posts continue to flow from him almost daily.

If we continue to play Lucas/Mascherano I´m afraid we´ll drop too many points to challenge for the title before Aquilani is ready.

We might, and if I were in charge I'd certainly look at putting Gerrard back alongside Mascher meanwhile, with Yossi as second striker in his place. Nothing's definite yet though.

Sunday's last gasp win papered over a lot of cracks. Particularly in central midfield. Lucas was ineffective once again. I'd like to say something good about him, and he has played well in parts this season, but Gerrard back to CM is the only way to go. We cannot afford to give anyone a bigger headstart than they already have.

How long until we can expect to see Aquilani? I thought it was supposed to be around 5 weeks, which will almost be up after the Int break.

Behave...Villa got a few lucky breaks and we were not on top of our game and still dominated most of the game. Spurs were the better team but comprehensive may be stretching it....

Neither Stoke or Bolton will get relegated this season either.

Bloody hell, i thought he was much closer to playing than that!

So the Chavs away could be his 1st game then.

villa put 3 past us at anfield - that's comprehensive enough in my book. if you think villa were lucky then what were we against bolton?

I never said we steamrolled Bolton. We were lucky to beat them and we've really got to up our game or we'll be ouy of the race before Christmas.

Vilaa got three goals which were a fluke, a goal from a badly defended corner and a penalty from a ridiculous rush of blood to the head from Gerrard, they hardly played us off the park.

Blimey. There is some pretty pathetic cockeyed negativity on here.... yes we have looked suspect, this does not mean we will stay that way and fuck things up. The season is 38 games long not 2 poor defeats.

We have got a chance.

No question.

if lucas carries on playing we have no chance.
Dear oh dear. Is there no end to your tosh?

So Lucas was the sole reason we lost those games eh? And had nothing to do with the Bolton or Stoke wins? But of course the line you missed out was "its the manager's fault for playing him...". I must have missed your critique of Carragher's performance against Spurs and Gerrard's performance against Villa.

Carry on picking the easy, bandwagon targets you fucking simpleton. Tell you what, if we win the league would you do us all a favour and fuck off? After all you certainly wouldn't want to celebrate a team led by Rafa and playing Lucas winning the league would you. :🙂

Rage= More tedious than Glock. And that's fcuking saying something. A
