I felt sorry for insua because I'm sure he looked across the line and saw an attacker ahead of him so rather than keep in line with the other defenders he stayed where he was, unfortunately the ball was passed to someone who was onside. a totally fuck shit rule. it should be if you're off you're off, non of this 'non-interfering' rubbish.

Yep, go back to the simple rule. On is on, off is off.

That other attacker was definitely interfering with play anyway, whether he touched it or not, he would have affected Reina's positioning.

it's ridiculous, everyone of our defenders have have been looking at the player who was a mile of side but only a few yards from the player who was onside, it's bullshit.

the rule can be a pisser sometimes, but Insua fucked up. plan and simple he should have been looking at the line of our players. shit decision by the young lad.

like I said I bet he was looking at the attacker out the corner of his eye rather than trying to stay in line with the other defenders. I don't advise it but I can 'understand' it.

This is the first time in ages I've agreed with you Spidey.

It's a shit rule that badly needs changing.

I think it's been said a few times on here, but Insua looks a lot better with Riera in front of him.

yossi gave insua ZERO protection tonight

I was only messing 😉
personally I don't think we played that bad, sure we could have been more clinical but it was a 'spurs away' performance. sometimes you just have to give credit to the opposition.

if your instructions are to always cut in and support the sole stiker you cant be expected to also be able to run back and protect the fullback

do you think it was impossible to combat what was happenning in the first half bud? i dont think florentina had the game of their lives, i think rafa was a tad stubborn when it was one-nil not to change things around.

I said a day or two ago that Riera was an absolute certainty to start at Stamfrod Bridge, and that Benayoun would be benched. This sent most of the Yossi-fans into an apoplectic rage.

Tonight showed why it'll happen.

If Riera doesnt play after tonight, then there is definitely trouble in the camp. We could do with him Twittering

The offside rule needs changing because we conceded a goal as a result of it tonight.

Good enough reason for me

Disagree. The offside rule does not need changing - maybe some of you are just too young to remember the bollocks that went on before. Fucking great goals disallowed because the winger, 40 yds away had strayed 1 foot in front.

It was Insua who fucked up - plain and simple and no amount of bitching will change that. One assumes he knows the rule as a professional footballer and he shoudl have been in line with his team-mates. He had probably his worst game for us last night.

Which was odd because he usually works his socks off tracking back. There were reports he was carrying a knock so maybe he was struggling in the game.

The guy who was offside HAD to be interfering with play, because ALL our defenders played him offside, leaving the other guy to run through!

How can that NOT be interfering with play??

I'm with FF, I like this interpretation of the rules.

It's much more flexible.

If a bloke is lying down injured, fine, but everyone else is interfering. As the saying goes, if they're not interfering they shouldn't be on the pitch.

And that 4th goal at Anfield vs Inter in 1965 would have (possibly) been allowed meaning things could have panned out differently and we were ther first British team to win a European Cup.

The offside rule in it's current format isn't the best, but that's not what the blame was last night, that was sloppy defending.

If this was Degen rather than Insua would he have a thread started to defend him/justify it?
[/quote]

Now you're going into the realms of fantasy. 😉

I think he went looking for the ball a little bit too much.

like I said, I felt sorry for insua because he MUST have seen the player who was litterally yards offside out of the corner of his eyes. so bascially we asking our defenders to hold a perfect line and ignore the opposition. that's easier said than done.
