I know there's been many mentions about them both all over the place, but come on....a good footballer deserves his praises.

But my gawd, I knew VdV was special and I've always championed his cause to my mates - that he'd be the missing 'jigsaw' in our game but they brushed off my suggestion saying he's a luxury player we couldn't afford.

But since he's joined, he's been astonishingly good. He's even surpassed all my expectations - and why in the world weren't we in for a great player who cost only 8M quid ?!?!? Wtf did Roy you hapless fool buy Poulsen instead ?

And then there's Bale. Omg. He was insane last night. Total ownage. Tore the entire Inter team to shreds. A bloody fullback.
When was the last time you've ever seen a fullback tear an opposition team into pieces ? Dani Alves and Roberto Carlos come to mind but still...not even close to Bale's performance last night.

And it wasn't as if it was a bad Inter team that turned up last night...Inter simply looked lost and clueless in stopping Bale.

As much as it pains me to say this, this Spurs team can go places - if managed carefully.

Dont think we had 8 million quid at the time, but saying that Babel should of been sold for about 9 million quid to make way for a better player by now.

I have always liked VDV, cos hes got good feet.

Babel refused to be sold, so there's that.

Why do players want to stay and fight knowing damn well that the whole club wants you out ?
And worse, when they're given a chance, they act like walking dicks on the field.

The VDV and Poulsen comparisons are pointless, as we were in the market for a defensive midfielder once we knew Mascherano was off.

VDV isn't a defensive midfielder.

We cry now because of Van der Vaart joined Spurs but we should cry long ago when Rafa overlooked him when he was at Hamburg and cost not more than 15mil but instead he signed a crock at 20 fucking mil!!

Madrid then signed him at 10mil!

Bale is a terrific player!! 20mil talent.

I wasn't comparing them both. But we could have played stevie n meireles in the centre with VdV in the hole. Dunno how's that gonna work tbf but screw it, it'd still be miles better than what we've got now

If we got VDV, we would not have signed Meireles.

You can't play a midfield of Gerrard-Meireles-VDV.
Why not ?
Cos they all want to play the same advanced, attacking role. You need some sort of discipline, holding capability, tackling, and coordination. That triumverate wouldn't provide it.

the spurs attacking players have less defensive duties than liverpool players. players like cole would become instantly more effective if more players supported the attack and johnosn would become more effective if pushed closer to the opposition goal. it's not a coincedence johnson has become less effective under roy who holds a deeper defensive line and invites more pressure than benitez held a high line and pressed for the ball.

an attacking player is more likely to succeed in a spurs team than the current liverpol team.

Unless Gerrard is to play the holding midfielder role, like his role for england.

He scores 20 goals a season playing in the attacking midfielder role. It's like having a pornstar for a wife and only using her for handjobs.

You said we can't play a midfield trio of Gerrard, Meirles and vdv, but technically it could still work, except for the reason you stated above.

Ha. Nice turn of phrase.

Back on subject. Bale is a freak and is probably worth 30 million now. VDV always had class, the majority here didn't want him when we we're linked though.

Bale is flavour of the month after two hot performances against Inter. But I didnt see him do much at OT on Saturday. In fact he did fuck all

Bales current hot streak will last as long as it takes opposing Managers to recognise they need to pay him special attention. Expect opponents to double up on him to combate his speed and squeeze the space.

That's a little bit unfair. He was in devastating form towards the end of last season and big performances against Utd, Chelsea and erm, some other big team helped them get into the CL.

True, he scored a fine goal against Chelsea when they beat them towards the end of last season.

Yes he was in good form but nothing like the performances against Inter which seem to have propelled him to superstar status, and even have, would you believe, Sky staff questioning whether Spurs are a good enough club for him

Yeah Neil. My comment was a bit tongue in cheek.

there is absolutely no question a big bid will come in for bale in the summer. there are how many players in world football that can go past defenders using power and pace AND with end product at the end of it? a dozen?
I doubt spurs will sell though, it's not as if they need the money.

Worth much more than 20mil mate

Once we'd signed Cole, VdV was a non-starter. Although it is quite amusing to see people changing their tune about him. I remember warning people about writing him off. The cries of 'overrated' certainly seem to have subsided of late.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has slated Rafa Benitez over his tactics for Inter Milan's defeat this week.

Redknapp is keen to bang the drum for English bosses – and insisted Blackpool’s Ian Holloway would have done better in the away dugout than former Liverpool boss Benitez.

He said: “Foreigners aren’t any cleverer than we are.

“Were they clever tactically the other night by leaving Gareth Bale one-for-one with their right-back, when he kept ripping him up?

“I was surprised, for sure. Ian Holloway would have doubled up on him.€
