The not so Official January Transfer Rumour Thread

I'd be really worried if Pep really wants Luis for Bayern. That might be an appealing idea even for Luis (although I really hope he does love our club enough to keep him here)

Any player would be crazy to turn down Guardiola, but I dont think Suarez is the type of player he would go for. He likes to build a unit with a cohesive group mentality, Luis is too much of an individual for me to work in that environment. Doesnt mean hes not good enough as a player but I think Pep learned his lesson from Zlatan, some players cannot conform. Luis for all his obvious talents is a lightening rod for controversy and i would imagine he divides the opinions of his co workers as much as he does spectators

Its from the Sunday Mirror, but if he's thinking about going for either Falcao or Suarez, I'd say Falaco is more likely.

I don't know. I think Suarez could be ideal to play the Messi role for Pep at Bayern. His all round play is better than Falcao's which would make him a more attractive proposition. I hope not, obviously.

The latest rumour on Sneijder is that he is now willing to sign the new contract with inter but the inter president is not sure if he wants him to stay anymore because of all his pricking about
The thoughts are that it is an agents attempt to flush more out of us or to ensure he gets his pay-off from Inter

I'd rather pass on Wes. His best days may well have passed, he hasn't played in England before and he's greedy.

Oh, and he looks like he bats for the other side.

I want us to invest in that Coutinho chap.
Take a risk with those signings than with Sneijder.
If Sneijder was that desperate to come to us, the move would have happened by now. He's not.
This isn't a Gary Mac-style signing. Gary wanted to play for us. Sneijder wants big money from somewhere apart from Turkey.

If we can get him for a decent price, decent wages (we've just got rid of Sahin and Cole, afterall, only bringing Sturridge in) then we'd be mad not to. He's worth the risk. Just because it happened with Joe Cole doesn't mean it will happen with Sneijder.

How do you know he doesnt want to play for us? Has he said this? For all you know he could be willing to take a big pay cut and really wants to come here. These things can be very complicated to sort out. We'll find out soon enough I guess.

To be honest I cant understand why some people dont want a player of his quality at our club. Its ludicrous! If hes willing to take a big pay cut we should be all over this, and I sincerely hope that we are.

Sneijder is (or was - I don't really know) top class. If that's what we're getting then it could be end up being a great signing, but I guess most people are weighing up the risks and they're not insignificant. The wider question is whether we really need to take that risk right now given where we are and that's often where someone like Ross is coming from. Liverpool aren't going to keep getting chance after chance to make it back to the top. We need to plot our path carefully this time it feels.

As for whether Sneijder wants to come here, of course he doesn't. He'd choose any of the other top teams over us in order to compete for trophies and play in the CL. That's not downplaying the allure of Liverpool - it's just the way things are right now. If those clubs aren't in the picture then yeah, we represent a viable alternative because at least we're a glamorous name if not a glamorous team right now.

As far as I'm concerned if Rodgers wants him then thats good enough for me. I do buy into this philosophy of buy up young talent that will be with us for the next ten to fifteen years and beyond but every so often we need to supplement that with experienced "already there" players. Rodgers had alluded to that this week. So if at this moment Sneijder is that player, and if the deal is right for the club (i.e. wages and fee), then we should be all over it.

That's an excellent point and something that is easy to miss especially when Liverpool fans have gathered so much frustration during the past years.

I'm pro Sneijder though. I feel this is a one off chance to sign a player of his caliber considering our state at the moment. If the contract is right (and it has to be to make this work) he wouldn't be that risky. It might take a while to get him to his best but even at 50% he'd be way better than most of what we've got. Signing him would also show ambition and would immediately push us one notch higher in appeal and that could be important come summer transfer window.

Hi Der Alte - Welcome to the site. I'm up for WS as well. Being completely clueless with regards to non PL footballers I know nothing about him apart from he has a good reputation (Also I don't play FIFA) whose position in our current line up would he take?

Thanks! I'm not completely new here though. I used to post a bit under different name but it got wiped out in some site crash or whatever.

Actually one problem with signing Sneijder is that it would then intensify the need for a dynamic defensive mid. In my opinion we have dearly missed that ever since Mascherano was sold anyway and that is something that should have been adressed ages ago. A midfield three of Sneijder, Gerrard and 'a destroyer' would be mouthwatering.

Do you think Gary took a pay cut to join us?

He admitted on goals on Sunday (cant blame tbh!) that he moved to Coventry from Leeds as they trebled his wages.

All players are concerned about the money, you shouldn't kid yourself otherwise.

I bet he'll become the Brazilian Downing if we sign him.
That remark can only be used on an established proven player, preferably a winger, who costs more than £15 Million and does next to fuck all in two seasons.
