The not so Official January Transfer Rumour Thread

But lets be honest, not being near hamanns ability is hardly a damning criticism. Hes a great.

Lucas was 2nd in the player of the season for 2010
Lucas was 3rd in the player of the season for 2011
Lucas was 3rd in the player of the season for 2012 (until injured)

I think he has also been named the club player of the year twice. And the fans player of the year once.
Hes been terrific for years, he was WORLD CLASS for half a season until injured, but to suggest he was only good for a couple of games is just not right imho.
He isnt back to that form, but he will get there. Go Wonderman!

I don't think Lucas is near Hamann at his best. I get the comparison, because he's developed into a similar style DM, reading the game and breaking up the play, or at least that's where he was at in his peak form last season. That half a season was him at his best though and even then I'd only say that was approaching Hamann's abilities.

That said, people have short memories and should probably learn from the Hamann era. After his first season most people wanted to sell because he'd been underwhelming. Though it's fair to say, he played a more attacking role for Newcastle, so many were expecting him to come in and run the midfield, even though we were desperate at the time for a natural DM, I think it worked out nicely in the end with Gerrard running the show and Hamann holding the midfield together. Lucas has neared that form all too briefly and as pointed out, is now 26 and reaching so called peak age. He needs to start doing it fast and prove it wasn't just him hitting a peak amongst what's been a fairly steady but unspectacular career with us so far. We've got too many players like that, we need someone to take charge in each role from back to front, to give us some spine again.

And when he does we'll be a league contender again like we were when he was 'world class'

Well no. Because hes surrounded by absolute shite like he was last season when he was playing like Makalele.
But then you already know that.

I wouldn't say he's been terrific for years (except for in attitude) but it' no exaggeration to claim that he was world class for the half season prior to injury. He was an absolute snappy tackling, game reading, relentless monster finally fulfilling his potential.

I just hope he can get back there, but it'll take time and we can do with some proper back-up/competition for him in DM.

Look people don't want to be able to tell what a thread is about from the title. So fuck them.

Last night I made fillet steak with pepper sauce, to die for it was. Lovely cut of meat, cooked medium. The sauce was made from the juices coming off the steak, cream, a drop of brandy and loads of different ground peppers.

If you cook a steak medium then you've ruined it. Rare is the only way to eat a steak

I think Lucas could benefit from watching videos of Hamann. He might learn the art of fouling, for a start. Hamann was a master of the professional foul, and he usually did it in areas that posed little threat to us. He also managed to escape a booking quite frequently. Lucas is more hasty in the challenge, and has been prone to giving away needless free kicks in dangerous areas. Hamann was also great at drawing fouls, and relieving pressure - something that Lucas has yet to develop to his game.

Well it would actually depend on the cut of the steak. Traditional fillet or a chateaubriand yes rare to medium-rare is the way to go. Your cuts on the bone such as a T-bone or Porterhouse should be medium-rare whereas a rump or sirloin are generally recommended as medium.

I wouldn't eat a Sirloin medium, it would have to be rare. Fair enough with rump as it's a poorer cut and I'm always cautious with T bone due to the BSE scares.

So Didi was a dirty cheat then? I assume he was also a racist which is why we got rid?

Is a t-bone not just a combination of fillet and sirloin cuts with the bone on?

LOL and someone locked the thread of Joe sideway Allen where JJ and I were about to discuss cannibalism and that human flesh tastes like pork! *screams unfair*

JJ if you are here, you can take it on good authority, I do not know because I have never tasted human flesh before but I have heard about the story where cannibals described human (missionaries) as pigs on two feet! So there.

United and Liverpool lead Premier League interest in Vallecano striker Baptistao

By SIMON JONES
PUBLISHED: 22:42, 9 January 2013 | UPDATED: 22:48, 9 January 2013
Manchester United’s Martin Ferguson was among a clutch of scouts, including those from Liverpool, Wigan and QPR who watched Rayo Vallecano defeat Getafe on Monday night.
It is understood that Vallecano striker Leo Baptistao was among those being watched. The 20-year-old has scored six times in 17 La Liga appearances since stepping into the main striking role vacated by Michu.
The Brazilian didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet in front his admirers, but did set up the third and final goal in the 3-1, capping an impressive all round display.

Target: Baptistao (right) is being watched by a number of Premier League clubs
Baptistao’s rise to prominence has been slow as a result of two serious arm injuries, as well as a bout of hepatitis, according to reports in Spain.
He first came to Europe after impressing scouts with his close control duing indoor matches, where he played alongside the much-coveted Neymar.
Notes were also being taken on midfielder Javi Fuego and goalkeeper David Cobeno.
